7 Minute Workout

This year's resolution was to add some cross training on those days I don't run.  I read about the 7 minute workout that seems to be the new trend towards quick 30 second sets of several different exercises with a brief rest between each exercise.  …

Lacey attended her first Doodle Romp

I spent yesterday making sure both the girls were brushed out and looking their prettiest for today's romp.  Then today I packed the car with water bowl, brush, car seat cover and towels... lots of towels since both girls have a tendency to get car sick.  Amazingly enough neither one of them got sick on the ride to the romp (this was the first of the firsts today).  After we arrived at the romp Harlow was ready to go play with all the other doods so off came the leash and off she went to…

Lacey's first 4th of July with us.

This was Lacey's first 4th of July with us and I was not sure how she would react.  She is so scared of everything that I feared the worst.  I didn't know if she would panic in the house or not (I definitely knew I was not going to let her outside during the "action").  We did not attended either of the fireworks shows that take place near us this year because I was too tired from a 10k race in the morning.  It was an early bedtime for me so I was laying in bed when the first boom sounded…

Today Ginger met her new forever family (cross post from DRC, inc.)

Yep, that's right, she has a forever family. This morning Ginger and I met her new mom, Kathie, new dad, Mac and big brother, Laser (yellow lab). Her new family had just spent two days driving from MA to just north of Atlanta. Ginger is so lucky that her entire family is retired (even Laser is a retired service dog) and everyone will be together 24x7. Her 2 footer sibs are all grown with fur kids of their own so Laser and Ginger have their parents all to themselves. Ginger doesn't know yet,…

Trying hard to get a picture of Ginger

I have been promising DRC updated pictures of Ginger for her Petfinder listing...  I have been trying, but being less than successful.  First I was practicing using the photo effects offered on my Droid smartphone...

In the sunlight you can see some of…

A run in the park...

Yesterday morning Lacey and I did 4.5 miles of 1 minute run/walk/run intervals at one of our city parks. During the walking parts we worked on starts/stops, inside/outside "U" turns and left/right turns and how to stay out from under my feet during these turns. Lacey did very well. When we are working like this she has to concentrate too much to be scared of anything.

There are always lots of other walkers/runners with and without dogs, stroller and/or both that are either…

Lacey update - it has been a week of break throughs. (DRC cross post)

What an amazing week it has been.  It started last Saturday after Lacey and I came back from our morning run.  DH was sitting on the couch enjoying his Saturday morning coffee when Lace trots into the room and hops on the couch with him.  Granted she made sure that she did not face him or look at him, but she quietly inched her way over to him so her back end was snuggled up against DH and he could give her scratches.  I was absolutely amazed as she has never done this before.  Even though…

Confessions of a Foster Failure

Yup, that would be me. I know you must be thinking “OMD! It can’t be true!” Ah, but I am happy to say that it is. Miss Lacey (formerly Lucy) has officially become one of the Whitefield Pack.

This poor, stoic girl has gone through so much in her short 3.5 years. First to be born in a puppy mill and then being bred every single time she came into heat just to line this a##&)*e’s pockets. Then to add insult to injury, once the puppy miller was done with her, he/she dumped this poor,… Continue

Miss Lucy update - Cross post from DRC, Inc.

Many thanks to Frannie, Deborah and everyone in their neighborhood for their tireless effort and success on ending Lucy's life as a fugitive. Miss Luce lost 16 pounds during her time on the run. Lucy has been convalescing with us for 2 weeks now. I am happy to say that she has gained 5 of those pounds back. Most of week 1 was spent with her hiding behind our couch. I have been trying to make time to blog about her progress but life just seemed to get in the way. I was able to send brief updates… Continue

Finn McCool... Nothing to do with Doodles

Still recovering from jet lag after a 2 hour train ride from Belfast to Dublin and an 8+ hour flight from Dublin to Atlanta.  We did a couple of day trips to various sites in Northern Ireland and my favorite was visiting the Giant's Causeway.  I wanted to share the legend of Finn McCool and how the Giant's Causeway was formed.

The Legend of Finn McCool

Northern Ireland is a place enchanted with the folklore legends of faeries, leprechauns and giants.…

Cabot is with his forever family

It’s official, Little Joe (Cabot) is adopted. Phil and I met his forever family Saturday afternoon at a local park. Michael & Anna had kept it a secret from the kids. When the kids saw Phil and I walking Little Joe they ran up to ask if the could pet him. Little Joe was more than happy to shower kisses on the children and they loved petting Little Joe. Then Anna said to the kids, “Remember the surprise I mentioned?”. The kids nodded and she said, “This is it. Little Joe is our puppy”. You… Continue

Meet 4 of the Little Explorers - Cross post from DRC, Inc

These sweet little guys came to us from Durham, NC. A lady there had an “oops” breeding between her 5 year old Goldendoodle girl and her male Golden Retriever and ‘lo and behold 63+/- days later 9 beautiful Goldendoodle puppies were born. The lady didn’t really want the hassle of trying to find homes for all the cuties. To make a long story short, DRC now has eight 8 week old Goldendoodle babies in our program. These cuties are being fostered in pairs by DRC volunteers. These 4 are being…

Bitser's Forever Family - Cross post from DRC, inc

On Thursday morning Bitser met his forever family. Jim and Terri drove over 7 hours from Louisville, KY to bring this sweet boy into their family. Bitser seemed immediately attached to Jim. After a bit of play in our local dog park, Mr. Bits hopped into Jim and Terri's car like he had always been with them.

I have to admit I had some trouble sleeping…

Bitser has a Forever Family (cross post from DRC)

It's official; Mr Bits has a forever family. Next Thursday they are driving from Louisville, KY to Atlanta (about 7 hours) to pick him up and take him to his forever home. We have been corresponding and I have been sending them pictures. The family is completely smitten.

I took these pictures with my cell phone so they are a bit grainy. Bitser loves to snuggle under blankets in our bed, but this night he wanted to snuggle next to Harlow's bed.…

Kibby goes to her forever family tomorrow

My bad as I have not been blogging about either of our fosters, Kibby & Bitser.  On January 27, I met Linda R at the GA/TN state line.  Linda had just completed a 4+ hour round trip from Chattanooga to Jefferson City, TN to pull Kibbles & Bits from a high kill shelter  (after suffering from a migraine the night before; what can I say...Linda is an angel).

Kibby & Bits were 2 of 10 dogs confiscated from an animal hoarder (10…

Today Harlow turned Two.

Poor Harlow is feeling sorry for herself.  She turned 2 today and we didn't do anything special.  Baxter had to go to the vet because he managed to cut a pad and was limping.  Vet initially thought he may have broken a toe but thank heavens x-rays proved differently.  Then we had to take DD to the airport to catch an international flight.  And to top it all off, poor Harlow is under house arrest because she is in season.  I have promised her that we will would do something special next weekend… Continue

Goodbye Sherlock

Last evening we said goodbye to Sherlock. Since Christmas his bad days were more often than his good and this week he started to decline rapidly. On Tuesday we made Sherlock’s final appointment with our vet. Amazingly he had a good day yesterday. So we decided to make a great day. It was a bit rainy but DD and I took him for a small walk. Then Sherlock got a good long brushing with the Zoom Groom (this was one of his favorite things). As it came closer to the appointment DD, Sherlock and I…

Gus has been sprung (cross post from DRC)

Tuesday 11/2...

Well, the elder DD and I drove to the Etowah Animal Shelter and sprung Gus from jail. We had a bit of fun taking the “scenic” route (read as we got lost as sh#%t even with the GPS) through rural Georgia & Alabama. We picked up Gus and drove 1.5 hours back home and straight to our vet. Gus has (soon

to be had) tapes, hook and whip worms, but is thankfully H/W negative. I am happy to say that he is a GREAT car rider and one big lovable hunk of doodle. He is also one… Continue

OPERATION "THREE AMIGOS" - Mission Accomplished! (cross post from DRC)

It is hard to believe that it has been 5 weeks since Operation Three Amigos started with rescue of 3 young male doodles from a North Carolina shelter. Well I am happy to say MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!! Duke was adopted first by a lovely family in NC. Yesterday Harvey joined his forever mom and today F Scott Fitzdoodle, the last of the Three Amigos, found his forever family.

Me and my shadow - cross post from DRC

Me and my shadow are not feeling blue at all. My shadow follows me where ever I go, even if it from room to another then back again. My shadow sleeps on a floor pillow on my side of the bed. Every morning when the alarm clock chimes my shadow puts his front feet on the bed to greet me with morning kisses and a tail wag. The only time he doesn't follow me is when he is romping with Harlow or chasing…
