Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have to vent a little about a woman I ran into at a local specialty pet store. I love the store, they carry really great stuff and have a lovely dog treat "salad bar" where you can mix and match and pay by the lb. - and all the ingredients and nutritional information is available. Such a great deal!

Anyhow, a woman came in with her dog and wanted them to say hi, totally fine. We made them both sit and behave before allowing a sniff. There was sniffing, there was a little playing, it was great. But in the middle of all this she says "Oh, you shouldn't use that collar, you really need to get one like mine here," and proceeded to call a salesperson over with a collar like hers for me to try! I said "No thank you, we're happy with the one we have." And she wouldn't drop it! Then she mentioned getting the dogs together to play since her dog doesn't have a lot of friends (in my head I'm thinking I know why) and I asked if she ever dog parks, thinking we could meet up. Well god forbid! She went on and on about how her vet tells her no dog parks or daycare, blah, blah, blah. Fine, to each his own, but I was done so I said "Okay Bernie, say bye, we need to finish shopping." And I proceeded to pick out my treats - well that wasn't okay either! She didn't care for the treats I was choosing and said I really should try "these" - which, while I don't mind spending money on my dog, were outrageously expensive and, well, I i guess it just fit the whole scene at that point. I'm sure her vet recommended those too...

Anyhow, it was challenging for me to hold my tongue because I'm not shy, especially not when people overstep their bounds. Here, on this site and in forums, I expect feedback, it's part of the deal - it's what you agree to by posting - but when I go out with my dog to enjoy a Saturday afternoon shop it's totally, TOTALLY unwelcome!

Maybe I need a hat that says "I know it all." So even if people don't get it, I'll at least look too bitchy to talk to ;)

I am really impressed you managed to stay and make your purchases. I think I would have "run away"! Sounds like a wack-a-doodle! Now you have your purchases and a story to tell. I would have just been frustrated. Good job, Amy. I can see why she wanted her dog to meet Bernie though... he is the cutest ever!

Amy, I think both you and Bernie earned your CGCs because neither of you bit the women.

I can sympathize with you. Personally, that type of person drives me crazy whether dealing with Phoebe or my the 'know it all mom' telling me what I should be doing with my children!

I did get everything I needed Julie, thank you! I love the people that work there, and they all love Bernie, I swear he gains a pound every time we visit between lovies and treats. It's cute seeing him relish in all the attention =)

And the know-it-all must be in there a lot, she knew the salespeople by name, throwing around "Jenny get me some of that....", "Justin I also need another one of those..." Obviously this tactic works for her because if all the salespeople are running around shopping for her she has plenty of time to search out hopeless projects like me and provide some guidance...ha!

As usual I agree with Donna!! Good for you for not letting it out but still moving on. I have a hard time telling people no but my husband usually takes care of that stuff and I just keep walking away very fast! Some people just don't get it!! Eveyone has their own likes and dislikes but let's just leave it at that, when they walk away we can talk about the colar they were using etc. she probably does this to everyone though!

I would have felt just like you.  I probably would have left.  There was a trainer at our local PetCo that followed Ned and I around trying to get me to sign up for his classes - I just couldn't get rid of him. I stopped taking Ned there.

I'm with you on being more bolder on the internet than in person. I always have this idea in the back of my head that if I tell them how I really feel that it will come back to bite me in some way. It sort of depends on my mood though. What a bummer that it got in the way of your fun time at the store? Did you get what you wanted before you left?

I hate that, in general the older I get the more I hate people who have the greater then, better then complex. I usually sing a song that says " anything I can do you can do better" just to make a joke out of it because it is so extremely frustrating.

I am much bolder on the internet then I am in person, I hardly ever speak my mind, but the older I get, the more I am saying how I feel.

I will take one of those t shirts, a hat, a bumper sticker and anything else you can find. You have every right to enjoy your day.
