Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We have had a lot of excitement on DK recently from Donna's post about Naked Doodles to Sharon's post about a Bare Husband and a Real Bear. This got me thinking about a naked story of my own.  We are nearing the end of the school year for some kids and their parents.  I love this time of year now that my girls are finished with school and our household is not in a mad frenzy to get last minute projects, papers, and finals completed. I had two very different daughters when it came to homework. One felt it was cheating to ask for any help and one liked to wait until the last possible minute to finish an assignment and did not care if the three year old down the street completed it in crayon for her.  There were times when my DH and I did not think we could survive one more school year with our “I Forgot” child. Luckily, sometime during high school she got interested in photography and started thinking about going to college. Being creative was her niche and she was able to get into a wonderful college for Art and Design.

She loved this college and turned into a model student. She never forgot her assignments and never asked for help. We didn’t always handle the creative art world as maturely as she would have liked, so that could have accounted for some of her new found independence. When she came home and told us that she had to take a class drawing nudes, her dad immediately wanted to know if there was a Parent’s day at school. Stuff like that really annoyed my DD back then and she very haughtily informed us that she was only drawing nude males. Sometimes, she walked right into things, because my DH then said, “Was it hard?” and she said, “no, it was easy” and we erupted into giggles. I knew right away what was happening, but she never sees it coming and spent most of those college years thinking her parents were very disgusting and immature.

During her senior year, she had to come up with a topic for her Senior Thesis and she was stumped. This was a large part of her grade and she had to pick a subject or topic and take corresponding photographs to be displayed in an exhibition.  The public was invited, so it was very important.  Every member of our family tried to think of a subject. We even discussed it on a family vacation and each of us called out ideas for her to consider, some better than others.  Every idea we told her, she would tell us it had already been done.  Sometimes we would barely get the words out of our mouths and she would shout “it’s been done!”  Finally, I told her she could do an idea similar to the movie Calendar Girls and have different family members pose nude while holding baked goods and call it Cakes and Tarts”.  This time all she yelled was, “Gross!”  I told her I wanted to do cupcakes.  Without missing a beat, the other DD said, “those had better be pretty big cupcakes or people will be poking their own eyes out with their pencils.”  This caused lots of laughter and then someone else said I could always hold sheet cakes.

The Senior Exhibition was the last important event of our DD’s college days.  As luck would have it, she shared an area with another student whose exhibit was called “Naked”. This student was not kidding around.  Her show consisted of having six different people (male and female) pose individually on the exact same couch in their birthday suits.  Each picture was about 6 feet long, so no detail was left to the imagination.  My over 80 mother commented that she didn’t want to look, but she just couldn’t help herself.  I don’t want to be mean, because heaven knows I don’t even like to look down in the shower, but the art world would have been better served by these people holding out for a show called, “Fully Clothed”.  I asked my DD how in the world the student got these people to pose and she said she thought it involved alcohol.  I told her this was a public service announcement against drinking if ever there was one.  Every time my DH came into the room he had another comment, “this raises a question about the fact that all men are created equal….remind me never to buy a used couch….change naked to six things I never want to see again…and on and on.”  I think this was his way of thanking her for all those “I Forgot” years.  Our daughter did graduate with a BFA degree.and I think we really brought home to her that night the need to not forget to mention some crucial facts again.

Oh Laurie, thank you.  Great story.

I just had my first ever garage sale this past fall (well, my sister actually did it). The best selling items were all of my school and project supplies that I had on hand because of  those "its due TOMORROW!" nights.

Great story!  Our younger DD is attending SCAD as an interior design major.  I remember her extreme embarassment when she had to sketch nudes in her charcoal class.  And her even bigger embarassment when she caught me showing the sketches to friends. :D

One of the greatest joys in life is finding creative ways to embarrass our children - and you and your husband clearly are champs!!

Another hysterical blog, Laurie!  I had two "I forgot" girls.  I'll never forget pulling an "all nighter" writing college essays that were due the next day.  They were darn good too, and "we" got into every college we applied to.
