Cataract -GoldenDoodle 2yrs old

Hi

My dog Shadow is 2 yrs old. Its a golden doodle. Its a lovely dog.

From the time he was a puppy most of the time he was not able to find the ball. I recently noticed him dashing on the open closets. I took him to the ophthalmologists.  Shadow was diagnosed with cataract in both the eyes. The ophthalmologists also mentioned the cataract is matured and it has started to dissolve.

I'm from India. This is my first dog. I don't have pet insurance for shadow. I have called up different pet insurance companies . Pet insurance companies say they don't cover any preexisting conditions.

I really appreciate any suggestions or advice or information.

Hi Mullya,

Many of us have had medical issue with our dogs and pay out of pocket. One  member, just last week, had her dog in for eye surgery because of inevitable blindness.   The cost was somewhere around $3,000.  That was the cost in Ohio.  The cost can vary by location some.

On a side note, my last dog went blind, not from cataracts, but from retinal myopathy which could not be helped by surgery.   He lived a happy life, but of course, the quality was reduced once he went blind.

I hope you are able to find a way to help your dog.   The surgery has a very successful outcome.
