We've enrolled Bernie in an obedience class and tonight is our first night! I'm going to list our circumstances, so if any of you are in a similar situation, please feel free to follow over the next 10 weeks!

Bernie is 10 months old next week.

"Sit", "down", "shake", "speak", "give" and "relax" (roll over) he's perfect at in our home. Slower to respond when we're in public. "Gentle" (stop mouthing) is getting better both at home and with friends and family. "Off" (jumping up) is still a problem. Better with us in the home, not at all reliable with guests or when we're out. "Heel" is not in his vocabulary. He pulls like crazy. We've tried every method recommended on here for the "heel" and the pulling. Including a standard collar, gentle leader and pinch collar.

So we're tackling this as a family and going back to obedience training!

This class in particular utilizes the Koehler Method of dog training. The below link is the most straight-forward, unbiased definition I could find.

It's not as "warm and fuzzy" as a lot of methods being used these days but it came highly recommended from trusted, dog loving sources who have experience with issues similar to ours.

If you don't agree with the Koehler Method certainly feel free to follow my posts but I ask that you not use them as a platform for "slamming" it. We're going into this open minded with the intention of setting a standard for long and happy canine-human relationships in our family!

I'll add our Day 1: review later tonight =)

I look forward to following your training progress.  Consider joining us in the Training group....there are lots of us using several different methods.

Join us in the training group.TRAINING GROUP.   So far we have 237 members.

This group provides a "safe place" for members to share their experiences with training, celebrate "big and little successes" and gain insights as we encounter challenges, to support one another, and to explore how our mindset affects our training.

It would be nice to go through this with you.  Many of us have our own ways but feed and learn off each other while we go through training.

Hope to see a further follow-up to your classes.  Good luck.
