I thought dogs were colour blind! I'm beginning to think that Yankee can see colors. He has always attacked this black doodle named Jackson. He doesn't really hurt him but he throws him to the ground and stands over him snarling viciously. Today, he attacked a black doodle that I thought was Jackson but it turned out to be Brody. Same thing, he throws him down and snarls and sounds so nasty. He doesn't hurt them and thank goodness the owners can see that. They are not at all concerned. On the other hand, I don't like it one bit. I pull him off and give him heck and sometimes leash him depending if he tries it again.

My new problem is that Finn copies Yankee's action quite a bit. So when Yankee jumps a dog, Finn joins in and he bites at the dog. Once I stop Yankee, Finn usually stops and he will actually play with the other dog. Another black dog passed us when we were walking and Yankee started growling but I intervened before he jumped on the dog. What the heck is this all about?

So when I was near the end of my walk, along comes Brody and Jackson. I had to pull Yankee off one of them, not sure which one and hang on to him. Meanwhile Brody & Jackson were getting into it with another black dog. It was total chaos. I am so confused.

Maybe they aren't supposed to see red, but I swear my childhood dog favored red!!! I was a child but my bestest dog ever always chose red things - even my napping rug!

Taquito doesn't like black dogs either (which is hilarious because he is black!). They do see some colors...for sure.

Dogs can see some colors. we had a discussion about it here:
http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/does-your-doodle-have-a-1?...
Basically, they see colors on the blue-violet-yellow spectrum, but not reds and greens. But even if they were colorblind, they could still distinguish between black & white, light & dark, etc.
I've known other dogs who didn't like black dogs; maybe it has to do with their facial expressions not being as easy to read?
