Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi, it’s me… Harley

All my life I’ve hung around my DM (doodle mom), usually about 6 inches from her feet at any given time. Although she knows me pretty well, she doesn’t know everything!

Yes, she’s got some stuff down to a science, like:

  • Where my favorite tickle spot is located
  • Not to comb my tail in an upward motion – OUCH!
  • And how I don’t want my chicken mixed in with my dry food like my DB (doodle brother) Leo, I prefer one big heaping mound sitting right on top.

Sometimes when I’m laying there with my stuff exposed, she thinks I’m taking a nap…

I’m not ALWAYS asleep. Sometimes I’m playing “possum” and “doodle dropping” on her conversations.
On more than one occasion I’ve heard her tell her other human friends that she often wonders what I’m thinking about in certain situations, like when I meet another pet for instance. Because I truly love my DM – I’m going to use this blog post to help her understand….
The other day, while we were out and about, I was making my way around what I thought was a wall when I literally “bumped” into this female…

We “doods” are no different than any other male species when it comes to a member of the opposite gender. I backed up and gestured an apology letting her know it was my fault because I was just a “clumsy four legged” doodle who didn’t pay attention to what was on the other side of that “freakin” column. I won’t dare get into the “purpose” of the column nor why it was there in the first place.

She didn’t back away, which meant one or two things:
there was an instant magnetic connection / doodle attraction
OR
her pet parent was way too tight “up on” her leash!

Being the “chivalrous doodle” that I am, I lowered my head to hear what she had to say. Females always bark so softly…

Caught off guard by her “assertive nature”, I had to take four steps back! I dare not repeat what I heard, so please do not ask!

But then after the initial shock wore off, and after giving it some thought, I decided “what the doodle?” and I gave her the lick she whined for…
So Mom, you’re pretty accurate with your assessment: the more we hang out with our human family members, the more we seem to mimic some of your behavioral habits. Try not to get your hopes up too high though – I’m not saying we’re going to start using the powder room or anything, but there is always hope….
