Doode grooming YouTube tackel tip 1: grooming the ears the right, natural way

Pff, had to restrain myself watching the first video just now. It is just ugly and horrible how people who claim to know what they are doing (but aren't groomers) are grooming Doodles and putting the wrong info on the web for every Doodle owner to see and wrongly copy. So I hope that by giving you the right information you will be able to groom your Doodle in a professional, natural looking way, without silly shaving trics that do not only look ugly, but can harm your Doodle as well.

The ears

Don't ever cut the ears with normal grooming scissors, because the ears will look cut. If you use the right thinning scissors however, the ear hairs will flow naturally. Don't cut the ears in layers, because that gives your Doodle a triangle shaped face with small ears. The ears are an asset. Cut them only at the bottom with thinning scissors in a half moon shape (not a triangle shape) and if the ears are thick, then you could use the thinning scissors to thin them out a bit on the outside.

Never ever shave the inside of the ears! Most Doodles (especially white ones) are very sensitive and therefor sensitive to skin irritations. Using a short shaving head can cause skin irritations. Please don't shave the inside of the ears at all, OR use attachment combs to do this.

Shaving an air tunnel beneath the ears is ridiculous and ugly, because the head looks bigger that way, with emphasis on the side burns. Just use special wide teeth thinning scissors to thin out the parts that need thinning to avoid tangles. Much more natural looking and this way you avoid shaving an ugly air shaft, that can cause skin irritations and doesn't have any benefit at all (if you pluck the ears regularly (the right way) enough air can reach the ear shaft)

Grooming can be so much easier and your Doodle can look so much more natural and its fluffy, lovely self if you know how.

Please like my Doodle Comfort facebook page so I can let you know when my DoodleComfort website and webshop are done and you will get to know everything you need to know to keep your Doodle healthy and beautiful and looking its best natural self, the way you love!

Hi Helga, Vets and groomers often disagree about plucking the ears. I believe that If you pluck them the right harmless way regularly (Every 8 weeks) ear problems will not occur. please don't wait untill it is too late. Xxx

That is great advice, Wanda! My Goldendoodle is almost 7 months old. His coat is shaggy and not too thick. My vet said not to pluck his ears unless he has ear problems. Do you agree with that?
