Today was rather unexpected. Jess was not quite as sedated. He knew I was there, he tried very hard to lift his hands and blink. He had a stream of tears when I told him to remember how much I loved him and how my heart is strong enough for the both of us right now. He tried to move his mouth and was obviously very uncomfortable with tape and tubes. I asked him to blink if he realized it was his wife holding his hand – and he did.
Doctors feel he is still way too swollen to try to close tomorrow – they may even hold of a day to wheel him into OR to clean him out. Medication is helping him lose fluids.
I had to report that Phoebe was getting into mischief at home and otherwise doing fine. Whew.
Yes it would be great fun to sneak her in – but she is not that kind of dog. I’m afraid she is a little too over zealous upon meeting people and she’d be too hard to camouflage….she is by my side now but only because I have a stash of treats in my studio/office. She is quite the pal.

Wow -- who created the blue banner with Phoebe? That is so cool! Thank you!!!

We are praying for Jess, and you too of course...news still sounds positive...
I put Zoey in my pocketbook and went to see my mother in law in the hospital...what a difference it made for her just to be able to pet Zoey..I don't know how big Phoebe is but just a thought. I did this in Mount Sinai in NYC. Maybe one of her toys then.

Our thoughts and prayers to you and your family. At times like these, God gives us those special moments when we can connect and let our love ones we are there with them. I am so thankful that you have Phoebe at home so that you aren't coming home to an empty house. It really makes a difference. One of the greatest things about our doodles are they are always ready to give a kiss and a hug. So hug her often and lessen your pain during this difficult time.
God Bless!!

I am putting Jess on our prayer list at church. God is the great healer and I know He will be with Jess. Keep up your faith, miracles DO happen, I am a registered nurse and have seen many. Just be there for him and let him know you are there. Do whatever he likes, read to him, talk to him about Phoebe, home things going on around you etc. Just keep the love flowing. He knows you are there and can hear you, even though, at times, it will seem like he doesn't. I pray for you to that God will keep His comforting arms around you to get you through. This is very hard when you have a loved one in the hospital and soooo very critical. Hugs coming your way from your doodle family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tell Jess that a lot of fellow doodle lovers in Scottsdale are pulling for him! I am glad to hear that he knew you were there! Spending so much time in the hospital is hard for you and the recognition from him was a blessing sent to give you hope! Best wishes to you both and Phoebe too!

Being able to visit with your dog when you are in the hospital is the best medication! When my Dad was recovering from a serious operation ( 1/3 of his posterior tongue removed because of an oral cancer ) my siblings and I thought about the same thing . We weren't able to sneak her in either so we made arrangements with the hospital for him to briefly see her just outside the front entrance of the hospital.Dad wasn't able to talk post-op but could take a short wheel chair ride to the lobby where he could see his beloved Ashley! Those few minutes were priceless in restoring his spirit. You'd be surprised sometimes what accomodations can be made for a patient when you ask around the hospital. Good luck I hope the best for you and your family!
