That is the term the doctor used today.

I had concern over the nurse's assumption that Jess would be out soon. Jess is not "medically stable" and as the social worker puts it, "the doctors still need to tweak him."
I should say, I think he has been tweaked enough.

I didn't get my morning call and was concerned.
When I phoned, Jess let me know that he was feeling very weak, although he had a decent night of sleep. He also declared that he didn't feel he would be able to do any therapy. (To go into rehab he must withstand three hours of therapy a day, so that answers why he would not go to rehab right away.) It made sense that since he was off the feeding of “pure nutrition” and was only able to eat a little soup, that he would be more lethargic. The doctor confirmed this notion and also pointed out his transfer to the regular walker would cause more fatigue.

After a drink supplement and a little rest, Jess was feeling up to taking his laps. Throughout the day, he took five! He paced himself, footwork looking more stable. Wobbly in a few places, but he was cautious and concentrating. At one point he was able to get up without assistance. He was so proud of this, asking me if I saw it. It pleases me to no end that he is able to see his progress. I also see he is able to move himself a little more in the bed. With voice nearly 100%, eating, and going mobile, my guy is on his way.

Jesse’s blood pressure became low a few times during the day. When he sat up or after walking some he produced a better reading.
I need to remind myself that he is in the “early stage of recovery.”

I will see Jess in the afternoon after work tomorrow. With the assistance from my neighbor, I am going to try to put together a little (mock) first night sedder for him.
Albeit, we may have to substitute a bottle of Ensure for the wine…

I am wiped out myself; I doubt I could make it around the nurse’s station. Hobbes and Doo are also crashed so it is time for me to close.

Another great day for Jess! Hooray! All these steps may seem small at first, but they add up!

Recovery is a beautiful sounding word, and I am happy that Jesse sees his progress as well and has accepted that he is getting better but needs to take it in stride.

I found myself sighing several times while reading this. This is SOOO good...what progress, and he's seeing it too which is cool. Is he on a regular diet or "clear liquids" or "full liquids" or something else? By "pure nutrition" did you mean total parenteral nutrition (IV protein, carbs, etc?)?

"Early stages of recovery" that is music to everyone's ears! Jess' recovery is a miracle that keeps unfolding! I pray for both of you every night and continue to look forward to your updates. My doodles and myself would like to send Jess a card. What Mayo is he in? Take care! Kathy (Ellie & Oliver)

Jess is doing fantasic! I know you would feel guilty, but you should consider taking at least half a day to relax this weekend and sleep late, do things around the house, etc. It will give you some strength to continue on during the recovery! You are a wonderful wife to celebrate Passover for your husband in the hospital and I am sure Jess will appreciate it!

Sounds like he is right on track with his recovery. Sam is sending Jess a card we found yesterday. A blessed and happy Passover to both of you.

Just hearing the words "early stages of recovery" are miraculous! Take good care of yourself too. It'll be a blink of an eye before he comes home :).
