First Hair Cut

Yesterday we took Ruby for her first haircut. She had so much long fluffy puppy hair on top of beautiful fleecy waves underneath. The fur on her lower legs and between the toes were picking up so many burrs and sticks. I comb her every few days, not her favorite activity but she is getting better. We saw a beautifully trimmed little black fleecy doodle of some sort at the dog park and got the name of Erin at PetSmart.

Erin warned us that most puppies won't stand for full trim--and that'd she would call if Ruby needed us. 

I was very nervous when I took her in and had no idea we had to leave her for over three hours. Our baby! I was very specific about the cut. There was a beautiful big doodle in front of us who had the perfect cut, he looked just like a grown up Ruby.

I felt like a mom who left her toddler at pre-school for the first time. I bought her several new toys and treats in my guilty state.

When we came to pick her up 3 hours later, she wasn't done, I looked in at her on the table and saw Erin give her a kiss on the head. Ruby was leaning on her like she was in love.

The haircut was perfect. Erin said Ruby behaved beautifully for a dog of any age. She looks like a tiny doodle now.

And whew, it was hard on me, but now I'm ready for the next time.
