First trip to see my litter of puppies

Well, I've been communicating with my breeder for months and I have already made my deposit, but tomorrow is the big day.  I am going to see the puppies in person for the first time.  They will only be a little over 3 weeks old, but I hope to get as familiar with them as possible.  I have only made the decision to pick a male, but I have not decided on which of the three that are available.  My breeder was trying to force me to pick already, but we have come to an agreement that I can wait as long as possible.  So far she only has a deposit on one of the seven females and my deposit on one out of the three males.  I hope to go back when the puppies are around 6 weeks old and make a final decision then.

I am happy that my breeder is working with me, but she tried (and is trying) very hard to make me pick.  We are going to discuss me picking a puppy today, but her current stance is that she will wait "as long as possible" to make me pick.  When she was trying to force me to pick I explained to her that I can appreciate that this is her business (she was concerned about know which puppies she has available), but this is a long term addition to my family and I want to get it right.  Then I put the ball in her court and asked her how she planned to correct the situation if I did pick and the fit was no good.  After that she switched to letting me wait to pick "as long as possible".

 

I really am a go with the flow kind of guy...maybe even a pushover, but it seems more and more you have to be so firm and maybe even a little nasty to get what you want.  I hate that, but when we are talking about a life that will be added to my family for hopefully 10+ years and we are talking about $1000...I think I have a little say in the matter.

You are very lucky that you get wait to pick your pup - I have to pick at three weeks.  Will be very hard as I have four to choose from.  Have fun today!

I would like a dog that is submissive, sweet, and gentle, but not anxious and without confidence.  I would like a dog that is adaptive to my lifestyle and possibly a good candidate for therapy training.

Since you seem to have pick of the males, you should be able to take a while to choose - at least it seems like you should be able to.  You need to be able to see their personality before choosing.
