Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

It all started when I got married a little over a year ago. My son, Mark, and I moved into my husband's house. My husband built a pond with a waterfall several years ago. I had always commented that it would be perfect for fish. He told me that Mark and I were welcome to fill it with fish. Did he have a clue that that was going to be the understatement of the year? So right after the honeymoon, Mark and I went to our local Petsmart and inquired about purchasing fish. We wanted some pretty coi. The fish salesman told me to buy a lot of goldfish because they were more hearty than the coi and if they survived then it was more likely that the coi would as well. So my son and I picked out several different kinds of goldfish and off to the pond we went. Not only did every one of the goldfish survive but they thrived. So the next week we were off to purchase the coi. We bought a calico coi (appropriately named Callie), a white one (named mysterio) and a yellow one (named daffy). This was a year ago.
The most wonderful thing happened this spring. I started to notice baby fish. They were so small. They were smaller than your baby fingernail. They would dart in and out of the rocks. It has been about five months since I first noticed them and now they are "swimming with the big fish". It is truly amazing!! I am still trying to count them but it seems to be a futile attempt. I am guessing at least 10 baby fish maybe more. This is added to our 11 already!!

I am sure you are wondering where I am going with all of this. My goldendoodle puppy will be born in about three weeks. I have been reading how goldendoodles love the water. Do you think my puppy will want to jump in the pond????? It sure would be cute but I do not think the fish would think highly of it. I am going to try to figure out how to add a picture of the fish to this blog. I think I just did it!! You can see two of the baby fish in the top picture. At this point I am still a neophyte to blogging and such!

Yes, I know your doodle will love in the pond....well if he is anything like Jordan. My in-laws have a pond. Jordan gets out of the car, runs and jumps into the pond. Then she spends a fair amount of time hunting the fish. She has not caught one yet. Oh and my in laws have a dog door.So Jordan comes in wet. Thank goodness they are dog people.

How cool to have a pond with fish. My kids had had fish in bowls and tanks but we never did a pond :( too late now. I think the idea of some kind of barrier fence would be very, very smart. I would do it now so that your new pup will always think this water feature is off-limits.

My 2 doodles love the water too. Even a puddle and Finn is right in there. Chances are.......

Nice pond and fish, I would be very carefull with allowing the puppy near the pond. Most Doodles love water. If the pup likes to play in water, they will love to play catch with the fish...just a suggestion but it might even be a good idea to put electrical fencing around the pond when your doodle gets a little older.

How fun Leigh. I've never been good at caring for animals besides dogs or cats...can't even keep a plant alive. But I love when other people have fish =) To put a photo into your blog here's what you do:
