My day started when Vern fell off of the bed while sleeping. This scared him to death and he ran as fast as he could over to my side of the bed for a hug. Fudge stood up to see what all the commotion was, gave him a look like, "how stupid can you be?" and went back to sleep. It was just going to get worse for Vern, because he had to go to the groomers today. I used to schedule the dog's grooming appointments on the same day, but I really like spending one on one time with each of them, so lately I have been making the appointments one dog at a time. Today, was Fudge's day to have a girl's day out.
I have seen many discussions about adding a second dog and I love having two dogs, but when you go from having two to one (even for just a day), it just seems so much easier to me. I felt the same way when one daughter went overnight to a friend's house and you just had one kid for the day. Vern adores Fudge and she treats him like a little brother. Fudge is not a morning dog and Vern likes to give her a hello tackle or a lick right in the face first chance he can in the morning. He waits for her at the end of the steps, wiggling all over, and she always looks like she is bracing herself for what is about to happen. If we are on a walk and Fudge stops to smell something, Vern will stick his big old nose in there too. If you call her over to give her a hug, Vern never fails to charge in too, just in case you forgot to call him. She rarely gets upset with him, but today was nice for both of us.
We went for a long walk, ran some errands, and just relaxed at home. During the car ride, she kept trying to get me to hold her paw and more than once I had to explain to her that the police do not take kindly to someone driving erratically because they are holding their dog's paw. Plus, I also got a few kisses and Fudge is not a kissy kind of dog.
I wasn't driving. We were waiting for Vern's appointment to be over.
When I told her we were going to get Vern, she cried almost the whole way there. Was she excited to see Vern or worried about seeing the groomer again? Who knows, but they immediately started playing when we got home and this included out in our ice skating rink of a yard. We missed you, Vern, but had a great day.
Fudge after our day out!
Vern, in Fudge's crate,.....didn't seem to want to show off his new hairdo. I think he is embarrassed because he smells kind of girly.
