Go Check The Snap On Your Doodle's Leash Right Now!!!!!!!

I'm shaking. But I'm typing. This is that important.

I took Jack for a walk this afternoon, and we were walking past a yard when some dogs came rushing the fence barking ferociously. Suddenly, I had a leash in my hand, and Jack was at the fence barking back at them. Loose. Loose, in somebody's sideyard, with the street and the coming-home-after-work traffic about 100 feet away.

The snap pulled away from his leash. It was still attached to his harness.

I yelled Stay! and he stayed. Thank God, thank God. He stood there without moving and waited for me to get the leash around his neck in a slipknot and we made it home. I couldn't speak, which worked to my advantage because he thought I was madder than I've ever been at him and he was meek & obedient as a lamb on his makeshift tether. And we made it home. Thank God.

The leash is two years old. I didn't know the snap could just pull away from it. If we had been on the other side of the street from the yard with the dogs...

I am going to go buy a new leash and then I'm going to have a drink. I have still not spoken to Jack, who is lying here in shame, but breathing. In big, big trouble, but alive. Thank God, thank God.

Please go hug your doodles and then check their leashes. And then you can have a drink too if you feel like it. Drink a toast to luck and training and the Grace of God.

Thank you.

So glad everyone is okay. Thank you for sharing. Just checked ours. It is so scary that that can happen!

You should give Jack a hug and his favorite treat. He is safe because he listened, that is what in important.
Collars and harness connections should be checked for cracks or wear.

You must have been terrified. What a good boy Jack was for "staying" when you gave him the command. Don't be mad at him....he didn't mean it. He thought there might have been a "romp" on the other side of the fence. Jack wouldn't want to be left out of a party, would he? I'm with you on the "cocktail" idea though. Right after I check my leash. If the clasp is loose on Guinness's lead, he may find himself being walked on the hot pink one I got for Izzy. The "dog angels" were watching out for your Jack today.

K - I am thrilled that JD is home safe and sound able to be a meek little Lamb.
Go have your cocktail and let JD make up with you. Give him a hug from Samantha (who is also in trouble) and Charli who surprisingly not.
Hugs to you!

Wow - sure glad everyone is OK! At least Jack heeded your "Stay" command. I'm going to check Penny's leash right now. Thanks for the warning - have a drink for me!

I'm glad Jack is OK!. I have made my own leash for Luca, which I'm sure is stronger and better made than Calla's. Poor Calla, second child. I have the materials for her but haven't made the leash yet. Luca's leash is made of braided paracord , which is very strong and the snap is quite well secured. One of these days I'll post it on DIY>
