Golden Doodle Owners...Is there a difference when dad is golden or poodle?

Hey friends...

I am curious if it matters the combination of the parents on how the dog turns out. My uncle has two dogs one with a poodle dad and one with a poodle mom and our Cooper has a poodle dad. I just wondered if people have an opinion on if it matters and if so, what have you found the differences to be.

Have a great holiday.

You know, I was wondering that, too. I notice that some doodles are "poodlier" (a made up word, for sure) than others and I was wondering if it had anything to do with their mamas and papas. Guess it really doesn't - it's just another one of those interesting doodle things.

Hi Lesa:
I can tell you that except for certain rare genetic diseases which are sex-linked (meaning it is passed only on the X or Y (female or male) chromosome, genetically it makes absolutely no difference which parent is which. Most of the time, F1 doodles have poodle dads, simply because the retriever is usually the bigger dog and a poodle mom might have a tougher time birthing large puppies from a retriever dad. But there are many exceptions, as you mentioned. The genes for hair, eyes, height, etc., will combine in the same way regardless of which comes from which parent.
