Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
We have had Gracie for a year now, and she is a true delight - albeit a very expensive one.
We have had many visits and calls to our vet, Dr. Sue, in the last year - about everything from after-effects of eating a rotten rodent to sunblock ingestion (most of which shot into her ear when she first bit the container). Dr. Sue has a droll sense of humor, but is wise and comforting when we seem to be overly-concerned about our "expensive baby"
Imagine her surprise -and our embarrassment - when visiting for yearly shots, we casually mentioned a 3-day-old cut on her leg. Seems Gracie's great joy at scaring up and chasing herds of elk and deer also involves barbed wire. The wound, about which Gracie never complained and never bled, required two layers of stitching, the "cone of shame" and 2 weeks of recoup time It's going to take a while before we forgive ourselves for that piece of bad parenting.
Gracie had her very first haircut this week. The groomer turned our rumpled puppy into a graceful lady with long eyelashes and really long legs. We see lots of standard poodle in her.
She is in her second week of healing, so leash-walks are all she's getting. She looks longingly at her favorite run areas, but after a few pulls and huffs, she accepts her fate. We keep telling her to be patient. We keep telling ourselves that, despite her costly ways, we can't imagine life without the joy she brings.

Gracie just makes me smile! She's such a sweet-looking dog. Sorry for all the medical problems with this lovely dog. :(
I think it must be the name Gracie that makes them worth so much!!! lol Our Gracie Doodle just turned 6 and I can't even begin to tell you all the $$ that have been spent on her. From Fox Tails being surgically removed from her paws, a Mexican Feather Grass seed removed from inside her nose to an auto-immune disease that took one year of treatment. Luckily all covered under insurance. Now, this Wednesday she is having two root canals done on her major three rooted teeth which is NOT covered under insurance...$3,000.00+ But like you said, you can't imagine life without her because of all the joy she brings. Same here, the love, happiness and joy our Gracie Doodle gives us is worth every penny!!!
A very nice blog Barbara! Gracie (love her name) is beautiful, long or short hair! So sorry about her cut and stitches and don't kick yourself for not noticing, we have all had those "moments"! Your pictures are great too!
Gracie is a beauty and her face is so adorable! I like the haircut and I bet she feels beautiful!
