Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Earlier this summer I was summoned from my office by our DD who was in the kitchen with the boys. She said “Mom, don’t freak out, but I’ve researched this and Harley & Leo can have some of my ***********as a treat.”

Before I could respond, she continued. “They say for some dogs it’s an acquired taste. They may not like the texture at first, AND they may even seem disinterested in the ***********.”

I had to ask, “if they aren’t going to like them, why are you trying to give it to them?” I mean, that logic made sense to me. Tiffany showed me the article…

  • They should be considered an occasional treat, not a daily supplement
  • Ten *********** or less should be fine
  • Washed, is the best way to give your dog this treat
  • Many owners freeze them as a crunchy treat
  • Make sure they are clean and fresh
  • Are *********** safe for dogs? The answer is basically yes, but only in small amounts.

So I gave my consent, and off she ran to the boys. It took Harley and Leo a while to decide if they liked the ***********, but once they tasted it they were hooked.

This has become a favorite with the entire family (minus Doodle Dad).

As with all foods, should you have any concern about what to feed your dog, please consult with your vet first.

Okay, so have you guessed the treat?

Sadie loves them. Of course she also loves reaspberries, strawberries, blackberries.

Some dog foods actually have blueberries in them. There are also good blueberry treats. Daisy does not like them but my granddogs got in trouble for cleaning off a blueberry bush once, this year they were in a fenced area.

Haley loves blueberries too.  I go to the berry farm every July and pick them to freeze for later use.  Haley will eat them frozen when I get some out to defrost.

If it's blueberries, I have a funny memory about blueberries, my brother, and our maltipoo. My brother used to insist on  feeding the dog blueberries. Now, I'm not talking one or two blueberries, he'd share the bowl with the dog. The dog would get the runs from them and it would really make my mom angry, because she would have to clean it up, and clean him up after. She had asked and asked my brother to stop doing this, but, being a teenager and all, he refused to listen. She got so angry at him when he did this, yet again, and the dog got the runs, yet again, that she picked the bathroom lock while my brother was having a bath. She put the dog in the tub with him, diarrhea and all! OMG, hilarious! Needless to say, he never fed the dog blueberries again! LOL
