DH and I picked up Haley from the Vet’s yesterday. She gave me the rock that she found in his stomach.

The $850.00 rock

He came home with cans of CliniCare and Hill’ s Prescription Diet i/d with instructions for getting him back on his regular food gradually over the next six days with regular food 100% on day seven. Also, antibiotics, pain pills and one other med which I think is to coat his stomach. AND, the “collar of shame”.

Haley did not pee, poop or eat while at the Vet’s (the pee came out when he saw DH and me) but he was ravenous when he had his dinner of a milkshake mixture of the two above mentioned cans.

I spent last night on the kitchen floor with him. He is supposed to be crated but we were unable to get him in the crate. DH had gotten an air mattress for me to sleep on and before I knew it Haley was on it with me snuggled right up against me. He would get too hot and sit up and pant for awhile then lay on the floor for awhile and then back on the air mattress with me.

Haley is such a good boy taking his meds with out much fuss and is not fighting the e-collar so far. Hopefully in 9 days everything will be back to normal.

Thanks to everyone for their prayers and good wishes.

Wow! I can't believe Haley ate that! Do you know where he got it? My vet said that sometimes rocks that have been in BBQs or had BBQ grease dripped on them are tempting treats for dogs. My Cooper ate a rock when he was a baby, but luckily it was a clay-like rock that broke up and passed on through - of course, I paid for the x-rays and ultrasound to make sure it would pass! The rock that Coop ate was at the ocean, so we can only assume it smelled like some tempting sea creature???? Hope this was a one-time occurrence and that Haley feels much better soon!!!!! Cooper has never even put another rock in his mouth!

This poor guy has been through a lot. That is one large rock he swallowed. I think it's great he's not fighting the collar....Murphy absolutely hated it. I'm sure he's going to feel better every day now! The worst is definitely over. Please give him a big hug from Guinness & Murph.

Glad to hear he is on the mend. Rocks are harder than socks to keep your dog away from. So good luck and maybe this was just a one time indulgence. When Winston had his stomach surgery at four months (sock) I also sleep on the floor in the family room.

I am so glad this worked out well. Who would believe a dog could, would swallow a hunk of rock like that. Wishing you all a speedy recovery.
