Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We just returned from our vet with Lexi, our 35 pound eight month sweetheart Goldendoodle. She does not like to eat. She was tested, and x rayed, blood test, stool test, and is in perfect health. She will not eat Kibble at all. I tried at least a dozen different brands from Orijen to Whole foods. She is active, affectionate and a perfect little gal. The Vet gave her Purina EN in a can and in Kibble form. She gobbled the canned food and will not touch the remaining kibble. We tried her on raw and she stopped eating that after a few weeks, tried chicken and beef broth, she does like marrow but only will lick it off kibble and then walks away. She likes barbecued chicken, but that is not a healthy diet. I guess it is a canned diet for her, no kibble.
Can anyone suggest a high quality canned food and how much do you feed on a daily basis. Poor baby is hungry and needs to be plumped up!

Our dogs are all picky eaters and sometimes will seem to go for days without eating. Since we have so many dogs and since they all eat on different schedules (just like humans) we free feed kibble and we supplement with canned morning and night.
Sometimes I will hear a dog crunching kibble at 2 AM!
We had one that I feared had Addisons because she was so picky, but she is now our best eater, so don't worry too much your baby will probably come along too.
You can try putting bacon grease on the bottom of the dish or even stirring it into the kibble and canned foods...if she is thin the bacon grease (in small amounts) won't be harmful. Obviously, it isn't an ideal diet, but if it gets your girl hungry enough to eat that is good.
Does she like treats? If so, you can feed her the food as treats...one good treat that is also considered a food is Natural Balance in the tubes...they look like chubs of hamburger...
Nothing wrong with canned! I don't think I'd care for eating dry cereal my entire life either.
You might try cooking chicken, rice and veggies (include a little canned pumpkin, in case she has tummy upset that is hurting her appetite)...veggies can be carrots, green beans, etc.
You can also supplement her diet with a good quality vitamin.
I used to feed canned Canidae, it was the only food my dogs would eat. Since they changed formula I am searching for a good canned too...you might want to try those canned foods that are only meat and gravy, called toppers ... I believe http://www.animalshelterstore.com/manufacturers.php?manufacturerid=13 (I have also seen them canned...we have tried them and the dogs love them.)
Good luck!
