Our 8 Month Doodle, weighing 37 lbs is a horrible eater. We have finally given up on a commercial food diet of either kibble or canned and prepare chicken breast, meat, Turkey etc. with veggies for her meals. She has started to eat again and seems to like being spoiled. Problem is we feed her twice a day and I am not sure how much to feed. .......I am guessing around a pound per day but really have no idea on what to give her. She is an average active pup, runs and plays, I don't want her to be hungry, yet do not want her over fed. Any suggestions?

you can also look at www.PetDiets.com for a nutritional consult with a nutrition specialist who can help you formulate a healthy homemade diet--it's not cheap but they seem VERY knowledgeable.

My Abby is a very picky eater too...but the one food she does like is the Merrick. You can add water to it and it's like a stew. I make homemade dog food also, but have cut back on how much I give her because I do want her to eat some kibble too for the extra stuff she may not be getting in the homemade. So I put down just a little of the homemade - enough to maybe really get her belly hungry, and most of the time she will eat some kibble. Then I give her more homemade in the early evening. She has been eating almost the daily amount of kibble that it says on the bag - and then the homemade stuff. She is by no means overweight either.
If you are going to be feeding her homemade only, you should check out "The Food Group" group here - there are some recipes that are pretty complete nutritionally speaking. I put in everything but the kitchen sink in the stuff I make for Abby - and she loves it.
