Saturday Murphy (100 lbs) and I made our second visit to a local nursing home. This time we went on the Alzheimer Unit.
It was a scheduled visit, so they were expecting us, about 12 gathered in one room. I was relieved not to see any walkers with tennis balls. We began making our rounds. 3 ladies were very dog focused and told us about their dogs at home. We kept rotating around the room. Other than continually telling everyone his name and that he was a doodle, it was much better than the other side of the building.
The 3 ladies kept wanting more time, so he would go from one to the next, being very well behaved. This went on and on. One lady was in a wheelchair. Murphy got very good at sitting right in front of her, facing away. Then he would stand and go to the next lady. Well, finally he stood and she grabbed 2 hands full of hair and told him, "Go Murphy!" Well, unfortunately, that is his command to go crazy running. Murphy and Miss Annie were headed down the hall to god knows where. Miss Annie was squealing with delight and the nurse and I were doubled over laughing...after I stopped him.
She asked Miss Annie where they were going. "Anywhere he wanted to take me!"
The other 2 ladies then wanted their ride, but, alas, they didn't have wheelchairs.

That would be too much fun. Wonderful story. I suppose it is funny now but maybe not then. A moment of panic?
I used to Rollerblade about a mile with my Mastiff. He would pull me down the road. FUN, until one day I feel flat on my face. I looked like I had been in a motorcycle crash with rug burns. That was the first thing I thought of as I rushed to find the end of this story. Oh no, Oh no, Oh no.
But that old lady was tough. I bet she is still talking about Big Ol' Murphy.
