Step 1: Teach your doodle how to "open" the fridge. I did this by rewarding him every time he touched the towel (or rope), then every time he held onto the towel with his mouth, and finally only rewarding him when he pulled on the towel. This is easy if your dog likes to play tug with you.
Step 2: Get a toy bottle similar to the one pictured below:
Let your doodle play with it for only a short period, making sure he/she's still interested in the toy when you take it away. Teach him/her to fetch the toy. You can say "get beer" here. Put the toy in the fridge where he/she can get it, and allow him/her to see where you put it.
Step 3: Get your doodle to fetch the toy while you're standing closeby like in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRA8sVR8pxY
Step 4: Get your doodle to fetch the toy while you're far away.
Step 5: Replace the toy with your favorite beer. Hopefully your doodle isn't as lazy as mine is!

I swear you can teach Hops anything, Thuy! You are so fun.
Hops is SO cute! great job!
Very cute video!
Hops is the best trained doodle and one of the cutest. You've done great work. But no, my doodles will not be trained to open the fridge or anything else. I like to know I'm in charge of all closed doors and drawers : )
BTW, I don't think I want my dogs to open the refrigerator. Then they would want to open the meat drawer and the freezer to get some frosty paws.
I knew we could count on you for a lesson, Thuy. Must be the teacher in you.
That's awesome! :-)
Hysterical!
Love it.
That is the cutest thing ever! LOL
