I get very jealous when I read post about mobile grooming vans that go around different areas in the country, or great off leash parks near owners that they can take their doodles to every day and let them run.
WELL GUESS WHAT...............
In the newspaper 3 days ago there was an article about a woman that lost her job last year, went to dog grooming school and the gov. helped her buy a mobile dog grooming van. She has started her businiess and I MADE LUCY AN APPT. She is coming tomorrow at 11:30. She will come into the house, get Lucy take her outside to her van, bath and groom her and bring her back into the house for $40. Do you just believe that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am sooooo excited. She said all she needs is a level place to park. I pay $58 + tip when I take her to the groomer that she has been going to since day one and I thought that was very reasonable. Does anyone else have this service in their area? What do you think about it. I will let you all know how it turns out.

We use a mobile groomer for Whopper and they've been great. They really listed to our instructions and check with us throughout the process if that run into any issues or concerns. Because we're so close to NYC all grooming prices seem to be really high in our area but they charge us significantly less than the closest grooming place to us which has a base price for goldendoodles of $125.

'Back in the day' we had a Bearded Collie- groomer in shop wanted at least $70 - my Maggie NEVER had a knot much less a mat! Found Jim - charged me $30 for every 3 weeks, and not mats. He did spend a good 2+ hours with her but I think he just loved brushing out her gorgeous long hair. For Maggie, this was the ONLY way to have her groome - she had Addison's Disease and the noise of the shop, the commotion, sitting in a cage, blow dryer just blowing in with no where to go - medically she could not handle it. Jim was our savior!

I don't think $40 is a lot - just think how much time it takes just to give a Doodle a bath. I think her prices are very reasonable! Will she allow you to stay and watch the first time so you can discuss any trimming that might be needed?

We had these in FL and our next door neighbor used them as well as several others in our area. He always had good things to say about them. We also have several around Cincinnati but they don't come out to where we live so I haven't tried them. I would if they did. My concern with this lady, more than it being mobile would be that she is brand new! I would be very very very specific with instructions. As far as price, I think she is very cheap especially considering gas etc. My groomer charges $58 + tip for cut and I went to a different one this week just for baths and she charged me $30 + tip. I'd be willing to bet as soon as she gets a happy client base that price is going up up up! Good Luck, can't wait to hear how it goes!

I guess it all depends on the groomer, their abilities. We have a few in this area of PA...and they still can't top our favorite grooming spot....Pettin on the Ritz...you rock! So the $50.00 + dollars per dog is well worth the service knowing my dogs are well taken care of. This is a family run business and the best the Lehigh Valley has to Offer, and no they would never hire the likes of Skip Eckhart either!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a mobile groomer come here for Jack a few days after I adopted him, as he was filthy and I didn't want to stress him more by leaving him at a strange place to be groomed...he was still shell-shocked from being abandoned at a shelter & having to adjust to a new home & family. It was much more expensive than my regular groomer, around $70. (Jack doesn't get cut or trimmed at all, just a bath, nails, etc). My regular groomer only charges $36 for him. (Both prices would be double if he had a non-shedding coat that needs trimming).
I wasn't thrilled with the whole experience. My regular groomer is less than five minutes away and gets him done fairly quickly so he doesn't have to sit there all day. So there's no reason for me to use a mobile groomer, even if it wasn't more expensive.
Where it comes in very handy, though, is if you have a sick dog who shouldn't be around other dogs at a grooming shop. Then it's a God-send.

I have found with most of the groomers in my area, not mobile, that they do not even want to do lg. dogs, they only will do small dogs. So I feel very fortunate.

Yes, we have these services around here in NJ. I once stopped a van driving by my house. The woman didn't give me a price since she was fully booked but she made it clear that a standard poodle, which we had at he time , would be more than most dogs. I suspect it would cost 2-3 times as much for a mobile groomer for a doodle here.

Libby, did they, by chance, tell you how much they pay? I am just curious, I think $40 is wonderful :-)
