We have had a couple of close calls with Neely getting out of our yard and running away. Our fence is not the problem it is the humans that close the fence. Neely has come home each time he has been called for but who knows how far he got or if he crossed our busy road and just got lucky.
I have been wanting to get an electric fence and my husband didn't want to. I lost it at him after the last little adventure Neely had. So he got one and we installed it today.
The wire is in and you mark it off with these little white flags so as to teach them the boundry as well. So we put it on Neely and put on his leash as well. We walked him around the perimeter saying bad flag as well. He did get too close and got a shock and did alittle dance. This happened a couple of times. That was that. He figured out very shortly that those flags are bad things and he is NOT going anywhere near them. I took down the flags in one section to see if he would cross with out them there and he did with no hesitation. Then he was shocked and got over the wires and would not go back. When we finally did get him to walk back into his yard area he smelled the places that the wire was buried even though they still weeren't marked with the flags. After that shock he wouldn't come off the front porch. We put the bad flags back up so he will learn to stay with in that boundry with a minimum of shocks neccessary. My kids didn't want the stupid fence cause Jazzie our old farm dog doesn't go anywhere or cross the road and they think Neely will learn too. They also thought that the shocking was mean. They also thought crate training was mean. It is alot better to get a few shockes now then a big ass truck run you over later. I do beleive with the fence and the electric fence my Neely will be safe and sound. No one will be able to pick him up and try and take him out of our yard either with that collar on cause he will be up and out of there lickety split!
