I have never owned a cat... but from what I can tell Luna has a lot of cat-like qualities.  I know a lot of these are just hunting dog qualities, but I've never had a hunting-type dog before so I find them really amusing!

The evidence (A bit Laurie-style with pictures!):

1. A fascination with birds

Luna hunts/stalks any prey she can find.  This includes her toys, people and especially birds.  A few weeks ago she was off-leash and chased a red-breasted robin for about 200 yards as the bird flew low... Luna kept up and was as fast as the flying bird... she is VERY fast.  Thankfully she isn't any good at CATCHING things... only chasing!

2. She pretends her paws are hands

Whenever Luna catches a bigger ball she uses her mouth AND her paws.  She also uses her paws to help her play TUG... what kind of dog uses her paws to play tug? She digs her paws into her tug toy and pulls... just like a cat does!

3. Stalking

Luna stalks me ALL the time... she also stalks other dogs, her toys and other things.  She sometimes acts a bit like that cat in the video... freezing and very slowly creeping up to me, then pouncing at the last minute.

4. Napping on peoples' faces

If I take a nap with Luna on the bed... she HAS to sleep by my head or otherwise on top of me.  I'm fairly confident that if I let her she would sleep touching my face somehow.  I have heard that sleeping near peoples' faces is something cats love to do!

5. Jumping at "scary" things

BBQ covers... plastic bags... inflated lawn decorations.... You name it - Luna is going to jump away from it.   The world is a scary place and Luna debates between curiosity and being a scaredy cat all the time.  Her first reaction is to JUMP away, then "wuff" quietly, hoping the scary thing will take her very quiet barking as some sort of warning that she is big and tough.  Sorry Luna, your tiny "wuff.....wuff!" sounds are not scary at all, just cute.

Do your doodles act like cats sometimes?  I know mine does!

Jackdoodle moves like a lion; he stalks, with his head down. So I guess you could say he acts like a very big cat sometimes.

Very cute blog!

Very funny!!  Sedona uses her paws to help her catch and is definitely a bit of a "scary cat", plus her daily playmate is our cat, Hercules.  I love watching them play together!

I have tried SO hard to get videos of her stalking me... she doesn't like being filmed and won't do it for me!  I could probably get a video of her playing tug with her paws though... hm...

Great blog! I have seen Tara in a paw swatting match with our cat but that is the only cat like thing I have seen her do so far.  We need to see some videos of Luna in cat mode!

I LOVED this post!  My husband and I actually refer to our smaller doodle, Stella, as Cat.  Sometimes she responds to it lol.  Everything you wrote about, Stella does.  And she's petite and agile like a cat.  Our big guy, Seamus, is certainly not cat-like though...he's more horse-like.  =)
