If You Are Considering Therapy Pet Work -- Pick an Easy Name!

I've noticed that the residents at the Veteran's Home where Lucy and Sophie go have a terrible time with Sophie's Name. They will ask me her name and I'll say "Sophie" and they will say "Oh Soapie", and I'll say "No, Sophie", trying to be really careful. Finally I'll just give up and say yes Sophie! It happens every time we go. Today this led to one man getting into a conversation with me about "soaping" her up when I give her a bath. And what fun that must be. He just kept talking about getting her all Soaped up and then her shaking and getting me all soaking wet. Finally he said "You know what, I bet it you got her all soaped up, and then washed her off and combed her out, she would be really pretty! I just had to chuckle! Seems every week we get one of these off the wall comments. They don't hold anything back. If they are thinking it, chances are they will say it.

So, just a thought if you are considering doing therapy work and thinking about a name for your puppy ...... keep it simple! They never have trouble with Lucy!

A girl that I used to work with has a baby girl named Sophie, and they actually call her Soapie! Our Sophie doesn't really mind, you can call her anything you want as long as Lucy isn't getting more attention than her and there are treats involved!

Ned says he has a great name and he would be glad to lend it to Soapie = er Sophie. But it is a boy name. Would she mind?

This story makes me laugh and also makes me nervous since we are in training for therapy work and Timbow is not the easiest name to say. lol

Thank you for that laugh! I may name my next dog "Soapie" ;)

Sophie doesn't seem like such a hard name especially since it was popular a couple of generations ago and again now. I suppose Sophie can shrug off the grooming comment, these vets probably haven't seen a lot of doodles so they can't appreciate their beauty.

HA! That is hilarious!!! Particularly about how pretty she'd be if you just knew how to groom her...LOL.

Love your story. Keep up the good work at the Veteran's Home. What a wonderful smile you and the pups must bring to the Veteran's faces. Hugs!

Naw, I think I will keep the names and see what creative conversations these names will make when I visit the VH. A good laugh is a great thing. :)

Well Joanne I guess you could keep the original names and just call them Al and Gil that would probably work!

Alrighty. I should change my next name from Alphagobaca to Joe. Or, Gilgamesh to John.
