One year ago, I got the call from the Dekalb Animal Shelter telling me that I could pick Callie (then named Pen 310) up. The second I got that call, I grabbed my purse and left the office, so anxious to have her with me. I actually took her straight back to the office, so that everyone could meet my adorable new furry monster (and because I didn't want to get fired). I was in love. Before the close of business that day, most of my office had fallen under her spell (we stopped being able to bring dogs in this past fall and my co-workers still tell me how much they miss Callie being there!).
Does she behave perfectly? Hell no. She eats blinds, books, remotes, shoes, and recently somehow found a package of magic markers (non toxic thank goodness) that I didn't even know I owned and gnawed them open on the guest bed (the comforter now looks like a Rorshach ink blot test). Somehow, it all kinda balances out, because the rest of the time she's so wonderful (and I learn, slowly, what will tempt her too much).
Callie's latest adorableness...I keep a 32oz stadium cup on the floor in my bathroom filled with water in case Callie (and now Wilbur) gets thirsty during the night (she was thirsty one night, that was on hand, it just became a thing). The other night, I was working on the computer in the guest room/office and Callie came trotting in with the empty cup in her mouth so I would refill it. That's smart and really cute!!!
In honor of the birthday/anniversary I was going to make pupcakes, but instead will be making protein cakes...ground turkey breast mixed with scrambled eggs (of course all organic...nothing but the best for my muppet!). I think she and the Wilbs will like that a lot.
I cannot belive that it's already been a year. On the flip side, I can't remember what life was like before I got Callie. I must have been so bored and not even aware of it!
