Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

It's been 10 long years since we said good bye to our "pound puppy" Tater Tot. I didn't think I would ever get another dog. It was just too painful letting her go. She was a border terrier mix (just picture Benji) with quite the personality and had been a member of our family for 14 years.

After much back and forth about the pros and cons of having another dog, we've finally put down a deposit on a medium size Labradoodle! My husband has allergies and was very concerned about how he might react to a new dog. So... we went to the breeders for a visit and played with one of the pups from another litter. Not even a runny nose!

The pups were born on December 5th, but due to our "discussions", we were the last to put down our deposit. That means we get the last of the 8 puppies. There are 6 chocolate girls, 1 chocolate boy and 1 apricot boy. We requested a female and it seems the odds are in our favor.

Of course I'd rather be able to pick from the litter, but these pups look gorgeous and so do both parents.

Did anyone else out there get the last pup of the litter?

Feeling excited, but a little nervous...

Yes Karen, Mika is our doodles' name. She's a great hiker although it's more like we hike with Mika... if we don't go on our daily outing she stares and barks at us until we take her.   We have an area we like to go to where we can let her off leash for our daily walks (about 2 miles) and she explores the bushes and rocks but always keeps close watch on us and returns when called.  But it wasn't until she was about4 yr that we felt comfortable with her leaving our side.  How old is Maggie?  Mika used to get into things too and she will still drag an unattended towel from the bathroom and leave it in the living room or outside.

DO, Is your dog's name Mika? She's beautiful! I noticed on your profile that you mentioned you like to hike. Does Mika go with you? I love to hike and live in a beautiful part of Oregon, but I can't imagine taking Maggie anytime soon. She gets into everything in our back yard in under 5 minutes. I'm hoping that she will settle down enough to hike with me in the future.

Yes, we did get the last one of the litter and as you can see she is gorgeous!  But more important she is smart, loyal and definitely what the breeder called a "clown dog"!  She makes us laugh daily with her animated play and vocalizations (making sure we know she is ready for her walk or play). I too was nervous about taking the last pup but I wouldn't hesitate again.  A good breeding will show in all the pups.  Enjoy your wonderful new friend.

Miss Ellie, We are so excited! We find out which pup we get on the 27th and pick her up on February 11th :) I'm sure we will fall head over heals. How can you not? They are all so adorable.
I'll definitely post pics!

Have not had that same experience, however, I do truly believe that what is meant to be will be...you will fall madly, deeply in love with this sweet doodle and it won't make any difference that he or she is the last pick of the litter...can't wait for an update when you bring home your adorable puppy!

Kona sounds like an amazing pup. She's a beaut to boot!
I can't wait to see which pup we get :)

My heart dog, Kona was the last of the litter. Everyone who picked a different dog from that litter lost out on the very best dog that every lived! Kona is the most gentle, kind and wise dog in the world! We won the lottery!

Thanks Samara,
I hope ours turns out to be low or no shedding, too.
By the way, I love the name Rooster!

Rooster was the last puppy in his litter as well- and I can't imagine having any other puppy!  He was definitely the only one for our family :)

With regard to allegies- Rooster is an F1 goldendoodle- and my daughter with extreme allergies and asthma does great around him.  He has VERY light shedding. I hope your experience is the same!
