Laurie (Fudge & Vern) Meets Cheryl (and Finnegan)!!

Wednesday, John and I spent the entire day in Philadelphia, PA, attending a Photography Seminar with Scott Kelby.  We had a wonderful time, but the highlight of our trip was we met up with Cheryl of Cheryl and Finnegan.  Who knew all those years ago when I joined DoodleKisses, that this online dog website, would allow me to meet some members in person?  First, the cruise and now, a seminar. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Cheryl was a little late, and we saved her a seat.  Unfortunately, not long after we picked out our seats, one large headed man fought his way down the empty row of chairs in front of us and decided that the one seat directly in our path to the screen was the one he wanted.

I was worried Cheryl might not be able to see, but then I thought to myself, “hey, she’s late….you snooze, you lose!”  Luckily, she said she could see, so we didn’t have to arm wrestle for my seat. At one point, the big headed man did turn around and give me a look when I was opening up a pack of crackers, but luckily he did not say anything about the noise or I would have hated to have Cheryl see another side to me when I yelled, “eyes forward , buddy!”

I texted Cheryl where we were seated and told her I was wearing jeans and a blue jacket and that I was stunning.  I noticed when she walked into the auditorium she looked right at me and I gave a tentative wave and she still seemed unsure of who I was based on my description.  Thankfully, she did not say, “did you mean to type sunning?”  I think F further confused her when I posted this picture

and F said, “if you think that is what Laurie looks like, you will never find her.”  I am in the process of reporting F to Adina.  Well, Cheryl and I were like two peas in a pod. Cheryl is wonderful, soft spoken, nice, kind, and a real lady and if you don’t believe that sounds like me, just the other day John said to me, “your tongue got in front of yer eyetooth, didn’t it, and you couldn’t see what you was sayin?” Instead of getting mad, I put him right in his place with this lady like response, “if brains were dynamite, you wouldn’t have enough to blow that there nose of yours.”  I could see Cheryl saying the same thing if someone said something about her sweet Finnegan or her eyetooth.

Scott Kelby had a great sense of humor since almost everything that could go wrong, did.  Cheryl leaned over at one point and said, “this makes me feel better,” and as a new person to Photography, I knew exactly what she meant.  Most of what I do is trial and error and to see a famous photographer laughing about one problem after another, made me realize that I didn’t have to go around cussing and saying where I’d like to put my camera in relationship to the posterior of anyone trying to help me.  Cheryl didn’t say those exact same words, but I could read between the lines. We didn’t have much time to talk because we were kept very busy, but I enjoyed the time we spent together and hope to do it again.

At the end of the seminar, we asked a young man to take our picture.  I wished we had asked Scott Kelby instead, because I look like Lurch with a goiter.

I wanted us all to sit down on a couch, but John said we should stand. In retrospect, I have to ask myself why I listened to John for the first time in my life, because now I have a picture that I am captioning, “which one is not like the others?” Unlike me, Cheryl looks beautiful in the picture and John is practically the spitting image of Brad Pitt. I mean, look how Cheryl pushed her way in between us. Oh well, if that seminar taught me anything, I know right where the delete button is on my camera.

P.S. I know Cheryl has a good sense of humor. I am counting on it!

P.S.S. We were "this close" to meeting F, but she decided meeting Cheryl John us was not worth the long drive. Next time, F.

Bonnie, PA is very boring. I say we all meet in Hawaii instead :) I know someone who is moving there....LOL! That said, any DK'er is welcome here, as long as you don't report back how naughty my two Doodles are daily.

Thank you, Sarah. Yes, I have been accused of being a Blog Hog :) LOL

Lisa, Definitely. Next trip to Indiana, I would love to meet some of my favorite members who happen to live in Ohio :)

Anna, Come on the cruise!! I would love to meet you!

Donna, It was 63 degrees here and I was HOT :) LOL His books are easy reads and funny. I hope that bad weather passes you by.

F, You know what....I typed that and thought it looked funny, but then decided who cares? I should have known! LOL  Now Elizabeth is going to get on my case, too :)

Cheryl, How sweet are you? Thank you! I can't wait to tell John he adores me :) Sometimes, I have to remind him. We are so honored that we are better than Brad Pitt. LOL I was thinking today while I was out with my dogs taking photos, that I do need a Brad. (Scott's Brad) I could berate him and make him hold the dogs while I could snap away in peace. I do think we need to email Scott about dog photography. We are definitely going to see each other again. I really wish you would go on the cruise. We had the best time.

How did I know I would end up in a blog??  :>)  Well let me just say, it was a great day! Getting to meet Laurie and John and hear Scott Kelby (and I'm so glad, Laurie, you've offered to write up the notes)  I would highly recommend Kelby's "Shoot Like a Pro" seminar to anyone.

I feel the need to clear a few things up though.  First I was way MORE excited to meet you and John than Brad Pitt!  When we first met, I wanted to yell say to Scott up on the stage PLEASE stop talking (yes I was late).  Do you know who this is?  This is LAURIE!!! I do admit to not recognizing her right away.  She was half a room away sitting down. I was prepared to look for a very tall person. But it's probably because she was NOT wearing an orange bikini, angel wings, or a t-shirt with Fudge and Vern on the front.  Be honest, would you know her in real clothes?  F really did throw me off the track :)

Laurie and John are two of the nicest people ever!   EVER!  As everyone on the cruise knows. And don't listen to this Lurch stuff --Laurie is very pretty, even though she's trying to hide behind that jacket...she has the most beautiful skin and eyes. I can see why John puts up with loves her. During a break, Laurie was telling me something she did, and John is saying quietly (like to himself) "Ohhhh she's not kidding.  She really does that." Small shake of the head.  :)  He adores her!

We didn't get to talk a whole lot because there was so much info but we had a good time!  They made me feel like I had known them forever.  I will admit when Scott couldn't get Lightroom to work with PS, I was thrilled.  Only he didn't lose it and threaten to throw the computer off the roof like some of us!  But then he had his humble assistant, Brad to berate.  Laurie and I decided everybody needs a Brad. Well, at least I do :)  Sometime in the afternoon, we realized that Scott had a section on portraits, landscapes, in-studio, out of studio etc. but where was the section on dogs?  Doodles to be exact. Laurie, one of us has to email him!

We were all disappointed that F couldn't make it. So F, maybe we'll come see you!  I hope I get to meet more DKers and see Laurie and John again.  DK rocks it!   Great blog ;)

PS Camilla, I am jutting out my chin :)

PSS Karen, I thought about trying to pass Finn off as my service dog ( especially since I fell backwards over  and a suitcase the day before and was sooo sore) but I didn't want to give up lunch. Laurie said Fudge and Vern would make a spectacle of themselves if she brought them :) and in that case, Finn would join in, and our cover would be blown.

Laurie, no wonder people are confused. How can someone got to meet some people in the near future. Are you sure those redneck remarks were not yours?
