Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Wednesday, John and I spent the entire day in Philadelphia, PA, attending a Photography Seminar with Scott Kelby. We had a wonderful time, but the highlight of our trip was we met up with Cheryl of Cheryl and Finnegan. Who knew all those years ago when I joined DoodleKisses, that this online dog website, would allow me to meet some members in person? First, the cruise and now, a seminar. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Cheryl was a little late, and we saved her a seat. Unfortunately, not long after we picked out our seats, one large headed man fought his way down the empty row of chairs in front of us and decided that the one seat directly in our path to the screen was the one he wanted.
I was worried Cheryl might not be able to see, but then I thought to myself, “hey, she’s late….you snooze, you lose!” Luckily, she said she could see, so we didn’t have to arm wrestle for my seat. At one point, the big headed man did turn around and give me a look when I was opening up a pack of crackers, but luckily he did not say anything about the noise or I would have hated to have Cheryl see another side to me when I yelled, “eyes forward , buddy!”
I texted Cheryl where we were seated and told her I was wearing jeans and a blue jacket and that I was stunning. I noticed when she walked into the auditorium she looked right at me and I gave a tentative wave and she still seemed unsure of who I was based on my description. Thankfully, she did not say, “did you mean to type sunning?” I think F further confused her when I posted this picture
and F said, “if you think that is what Laurie looks like, you will never find her.” I am in the process of reporting F to Adina. Well, Cheryl and I were like two peas in a pod. Cheryl is wonderful, soft spoken, nice, kind, and a real lady and if you don’t believe that sounds like me, just the other day John said to me, “your tongue got in front of yer eyetooth, didn’t it, and you couldn’t see what you was sayin?” Instead of getting mad, I put him right in his place with this lady like response, “if brains were dynamite, you wouldn’t have enough to blow that there nose of yours.” I could see Cheryl saying the same thing if someone said something about her sweet Finnegan or her eyetooth.
Scott Kelby had a great sense of humor since almost everything that could go wrong, did. Cheryl leaned over at one point and said, “this makes me feel better,” and as a new person to Photography, I knew exactly what she meant. Most of what I do is trial and error and to see a famous photographer laughing about one problem after another, made me realize that I didn’t have to go around cussing and saying where I’d like to put my camera in relationship to the posterior of anyone trying to help me. Cheryl didn’t say those exact same words, but I could read between the lines. We didn’t have much time to talk because we were kept very busy, but I enjoyed the time we spent together and hope to do it again.
At the end of the seminar, we asked a young man to take our picture. I wished we had asked Scott Kelby instead, because I look like Lurch with a goiter.
I wanted us all to sit down on a couch, but John said we should stand. In retrospect, I have to ask myself why I listened to John for the first time in my life, because now I have a picture that I am captioning, “which one is not like the others?” Unlike me, Cheryl looks beautiful in the picture and John is practically the spitting image of Brad Pitt. I mean, look how Cheryl pushed her way in between us. Oh well, if that seminar taught me anything, I know right where the delete button is on my camera.
P.S. I know Cheryl has a good sense of humor. I am counting on it!
P.S.S. We were "this close" to meeting F, but she decided meeting Cheryl John us was not worth the long drive. Next time, F.
P.S.S.S. All redneck comments were taken off the Internet.

We are supposed to get hit with a weather bomb tomorrow ( heavy rain and gale force winds) I think I'll take a trip to the bookstore and see if they have any of Scott Kelby's books. Today we actually hit the 50 degree mark and it was wonderful. Quincy and I walked for 3hrs, one pooped out doodle and a mom with aching legs. :>)
Elizabeth, Mystery solved...Sheri said she got to meet some doodles and their owners in the near future, but she would not name names :) I can't believe you or Carol did not take ONE picture. You were probably too busy with your glue gun :) Scott Kelby was very funny!
That shirt has even crossed the border a few times. :>)
Jay, You have to earn that shirt by winning a caption contest. Then you have to wear your "prize" for a photo shoot, and there have been some doozies, and post the pictures along with a new photo for us to caption. Once you pick a winner, the shirt gets mailed to them with your signature added to the shirt. I actually passed these shirts out at our daughter's wedding (in the hotel bags). She was married near Intercourse...in fact, I wanted to print on the directions to the wedding location..."if you get to Intercourse, you have gone too far," but she wouldn't let me. LOL My leftover shirt has now been all around the USA.
Bonnie, The least he could have done is take our photo :) LOL
Carol, It was a great day!
Janie, Thank you! LOL about your DH. We were very lucky. Cheryl, especially :) I noticed she has not commented yet and I hope this is not a case of if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.
Amy, You have a great point! I will take it into consideration :) LOL
So glad you guys got to meet...the one thing I regret about meeting Carol and Banjo was not taking a picture of us together...maybe this summer when we head up north!
Lori (Daphne and Lucy) and I are getting to meet up with Sheri (Lucy & Sophie) in a few weeks...And yes I will be taking pictures of the 3 of us....
I love Scott's books on photo editing...I just bought one for PSE10..so simple to follow...and he even throws some humor in it too!
Haha, I suppose I thought that each intercourse shirt recipient got their own shirt - but are you telling me it is like the Stanley Cup, where the same shirt goes from person to person? That changes everything ....
Oh you three are lucky ducks indeed! So happy you had the chance to meet. Yes, you should have had Scott take the photo. What were you thinking? I'm sure the seminar wasn't free. At least you could have gotten a professional photo out of it in addition to all the great tips.
Ohhhhh.....what a great day! Going to see Scott AND meeting a fellow DK member!!! Love the photo....you ALL look great!
I was actually laughing out loud and my DH asked me what I was laughing at and I said oh Laurie's blog and he just nodded like he knows you same as I do! I think it was all your descriptions that did me in! Lucky you all to get to meet! The photo is great btw!
Laurie you would be easier to spot if you would just start wearing your orange bikini when you go out to meet other DK'ers. Just something to think about. :)
