Unlike many of you, I'm not a huge photography guy. Not because I don't like it; I do. More because there are already so many items to keep track of when we leave the house (keys? cell phone? wallet? leash? poop bags? ball? hat? gloves? jacket? scarf?) that I resist adding another to the mix - particularly one that is expensive, fragile and requires both hands to operate.
Nevertheless, there are so many moments with Lola that I wish I could capture - even if not as perfect photographs, at least in some fashion for me to relive them and share them with others.
All of which led me to purchase a Looxcie. Of course I bought the biggest, dorkiest one they make:
There is a smaller one that looks like a bluetooth headset, which might have been more appropriate:
But no, I had to get the one with full 1080p HD. Oh well, what can I say? I'm also the guy that purchased and wore a Personal Cooling System when I was in law school:
So, we will see how this works out. Maybe I could attach it to Lola somehow, so that if she is in the other room I can just glance at my iPhone and see what she is up to. Although sometimes she and I don't see eye to eye about the number of electronic devices I believe it's reasonable for her to wear. I might have been pushing my luck with the Tagg PetTracker:
But of course, a regular camera would be completely out of the question. Way too much technology for me to mess around with.
Maybe I should find out if there is a twelve step program for people with this particular problem.
BTW, the name "Looxcie"comes from "look" plus "see". Took me a minute to figure that out.
I thought maybe that was because when someone SEES you walking down the street with this device, they would LOOK at you like you are a crazy person. Interestingly enough, however, no one seems to much notice - or if they do, they don't comment.
Maybe we have just become that accustomed to seeing people with electronic devices attached to their heads. Or maybe they are just that busy playing around with their own electronic devices.

Nice video, Jay. Lola sure is a cutie!
The video was actually very good and actually worked really well. I love the little "free spirit" Lola is and just always seems so happy!
What a brilliant idea, I'm a gadget junkie (should have been a guy lol) and am going straight to look at this baby.
Really cute!
Here's some footage from this evening. You'll have to forgive the video editing (or lack thereof). It comes out in a bunch of a little clips, and you have to figure out how to edit them together - which I don't really know how to do very well. Also this was only on 720p, to save battery. I could have gotten better video quality on 1080, but less battery life. I think what I'll need is a backup battery to carry with me.

Can't wait to see what pictures you get. A friend purchased one of the camera you can put on your motorcycle handlebars or helmet and video your ride. Our club went on a weekend trip and this guy filmed away....... when he got home to look at the video, he found that he had set the camera too high and all he got was sky and a bridge we rode under. It was a cool bridge......
Thank Dog for DK, it helps me keep up with the latest technology. Not that I would ever dream of buying any of it, but at least now I will know what a Looxcie is, and how it's pronounced, if I ever see the word again. When I saw the title of this blog, I thought for sure it was a typo.
I'll be watching for videos, Jay.
Oh yes, F. The pun potential alone almost makes it worthy buying.
