Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Henson and I are in a two year training program for him to be my certified service dog, as I am disabled. I was reluctant to get a dog from a breeder as I have always been into animal rescue and all my dogs were from rescue or shelter situations. After interviewing for the training program, I understood the reasoning for finding a dog that would have healthy bloodlines as well as a perfect temperment for what I needed. I picked Henson up at 7 weeks from the breeder and after a week was not sure what I had gotten myself into. He was amazing with potty training and crate training but having a puppy after so many years was a strain on me physically. He is now six months old. He graduated with flying colors from his puppy training and we have moved onto basic training. He is smart and an amazing dog for six months old. We take him to numerous dog friendly restaurants and he just settles down under the table by my feet. He comes to a couple of my weekly medical appointments with me and does the same, just chills. He even came to a 2.5 hour hair appointment with me (at my daughter-in-laws salon) and was amazing. He surprises me constantly with how in tune he is to me. We do deal with separation anxiety. He hates for me to be out of his sight. When I got to volunteer, I put him in his crate and I can hear him howling when I leave, but he soon settles down and sleeps until I get home. He goes through a high energy period every night around 8 (when I am usually ready to sleep) but we play and he settles down after that. We are also working on him not chasing the cats (I have 4 rescue cats). One of the cats loves to play with Henson and run around the house with him. One of the cats loves when he just lets her rub against him and when he licks her, but the other two could do without his high energy. I almost wish I had gotten two puppies so he would have a companion since the cats are not quite what he wants when he tries to get them to play. He is my baby and I am looking froward to the rest of our journey together. You can follow Henson on Facebook on his Meet Henson page. Videos, pics, and stories.
