Yesterday was quite a day. Now I know why I'm such an advocate of early spay/neuter (like before you even pick them up). It was Murphy's day to lose his manhood, and let me say he is NOT A HAPPY CAMPER! I brought him to the Vet yesterday morning at 8:00. It was awful. He was scared from the time we walked in the door. He just "hugged my legs", and then when the Vet Tech came to get him he got really upset. I felt so bad leaving him. I worried all day, but we got to go pick him up at 3:00. He was so "flipping out" when he saw us. We got him home, and then there was the problem of how to separate the "Irish Brothers". Guinness has been tethered to me since 3:00 yesterday, and he just doesn't understand it at all. Murphy's pain meds seem to have worn off and now he's feisty...very feisty. I just gave him his morning pill.... let's hope that helps. I am in the guest room and have him "baby gated" into the adjoining bathroom where he can see me. He just tried to "jump the gate". The Vet said to expect that he would put on a "show" for us. He is after all the "Drama King". He hasn't disappointed...lots of pathetic whining, which of course breaks my heart and he knows it.
The worst part is the "cone of shame". He hates it, and it really does border on animal cruelty in my mind. He's bumping into everything, and has managed to get out of it three times already. He wants to lap his incision so bad....
Last night he came running upstairs with a paper hanging out of his mouth. He was proud of himself that he was able to "steal" something even with a cone. I caught him and pulled it out of him mouth. It was the Vet bill for his surgery...he must have pulled it out of my purse. How ironic is that. He had a pretty good night, although he was restless in the crate. Right now the challenge is to keep them from playing...it will be a very long week. Here are a few pictures of my pathetic boy.

Awwww Murph Dood! Even with the cone of shame you are adorable. (I am sure you know how to use that, right?)
Are you gonna be a giant Dood like me?

Oh, i feel so bad for all three of you...Murphy, Guinness & Mom! Heal quick, Murph! I know it's no fun, but you do look adorable in that cone!

What a brave soldier you are Murphy! Aside from the cone, there is the tell-tale shaved patch of fur on the paw. Guiness is being very empathetic. Kinda like when you see someone on TV who gets "injured" and all of the men in the room wince and move their hand towards their groin.

I can't believe how bonded these two guys are. They are howling for each other. They are kissing each other through the gates and crying just like babies. Right now I have Murph locked in the bedroom with me and Guinness is crying and scratching outside the door. It's torture. Murph just had his evening pill, so in a little while he'll fall asleep in his crate and Guinness can snuggle in bed with me. I can't wait. Long day.

Sounds like Murph is getting right back into the swing of things. Glad he's feeling better already. Be a good boy, Murph and that cone will come off soon!

Oh, what a sad looking puppy. Hey, the last picture looks like one of our Photography Group assignments...Framing!!! I bought a blow up ring type device that the dog's collar slides into like a belt. The ring goes around his neck with the collar and that way there is lots more visibility and they can move so much better. Gracie Doodle never had to wear it because she never went towards her stitches or the area. My daughter's Rhodesian Ridgeback bit the ring and popped it instantly. I don't think most dogs can pop it though. Luna just has a very long lean neck. I got mine at Pet Co but they didn't have them out on display. I had to ask and it took a few people to know what I was talking about and that they even had them in the back room. That was over 2 years ago so they might have "smarter" people working for them now! Give Murphy a big kiss on his Doodle nose from me and Gracie Doodle.

Aww Murphy, just be brace, very soon that "cone of shame will be gone, but at least you have the soft one, I had to wear that hard plastic one not too long ago, and that one is much worse then the one u have. My Mom got me that one first, but I could still bite and gnaw at my foot, when I had that raw itchy paw problem so they had to change to the other one. I remember my Mom taking me to the vet for the same operation u had too, but I guess for some reason I didn't need the cone for that one,( Mom said something about the Lazar) but just wait u will be better every day, and be able to play with Guiness real soon...Hugs from your friend in florida, Oliver, better known as Ollie...
