Bruce,

Tonight I tried to email this to all the Sups. But there was a problem with that. The following is what I want to say, please forward to all.

Tonight on KSBY There was news of the wayward cats and dogs that were dropped off in Ca. Valley in hopes they would find a new home. Right after that there was news about West Hollywood “banning all sales of puppies and kittens in Pet Stores.” But shelter dogs and cats can still be displayed (they are all neutered and spayed) . Pets are the most wonderful feel good thing. I’m sure we all remember our first one be it, a Lady Bug, Worm, Lizard, Goldfish, Hamster, Mouse, Spider, Turtle they brought us through the crossing of life. Popsicle sticks in the shape of a cross in the backyard with their names on the cross. Most of mine are under my parents Ash tree.

There is a PROBLEM here in S.L.O. we are a college community. Students arrive; they go shopping either to a pet store or any other store that allows people with puppies and kittens in a box outside the store. Have any of you gone to a pet store with your children or grandchild and looked at those wonderful pleading eyes from the kitty or dog and bought one? Hopefully you haven’t.

The saddest thing is the Puppies, Oh when you go into a pet store and hug one and look into their eyes cuddle and hold them, your heart melts. They fit into the palm of your hand and so soft what a wonderful feeling sigh…………….

I want him, price is no subject, isn’t he cute? Oh, just look at his face, isn’t he wonderful? 6 months later “he’s huge! What do I do now? He jumps, chews everything in the house, barks all the time, digs in the yard, I can’t take it!!!!! If the puppy hadn’t been at a pet store then he wouldn’t have been bought by an impulse buyer and wouldn’t eventually be taken to the pound. Poor puppy back to where it started its life, in a cage. It’s Hell being born in a puppy mill.

Please let’s do what West Hollywood is doing. Ban all puppy and kitty sales in S.L.O. county pet stores and ban sale and free kittens and dogs outside stores.

Thank you in advance for helping,

Deirdre Hargrave

The cats at Petsmart are rescue cats; Petsmart provides the space free for local rescues, they don't sell them. There is an adoption fee, and it goes to the local rescue who has possession of the cats. Petsmart is a huge friend to rescue!

My local Petsmart always has cats for sale. Don't know where they come from. They never have dogs.

Thank you, anyone can use the letter. Thought I'd send a more formal one to Arnold, hey why not go for the whole State of Ca. worth a try.

This is great - thank you for sharing with us. I would be using yours as a form letter myself, but I am happy to say pet stores are not allowed to sell puppies anymore in my area.

Congratulations for your dedication. Can I use your letter as an example to send to my city mayor and the representatives of my county in my province?

Deirdre, you just made my day! If only everyone would write a letter like this, it would reduce the staggering numbers of animals euthanized each year by thousands! Thank you!
