Last night I was out and recieved a phone call from my wife.... "Get home NOW! Brody was hit by a car!"

I raced home like Tony Stewart on a NASCAR track and found the family in the front yard with a broken and sore Doodle. He came right up to me as if to say "Daddy, HELP!"

I picked him up, which at 90 lbs is no easy feat and carefully placed him in the van and took him to the Animal Hospital here in Oradell, NJ. Brody could walk gingerly, and was bleeding on 3 paws. I scooped him up and carried him in.

After a wait that seemed longer than it really was, The doctor came in and asked what happened. It was then that I realized that I didn't know what happened since I wasn't there. My wife was home with the kids beating herself up for letting him out accidentally and I'm standing in front of the Doc with the proverbial "deer in headlights" look. Right at that moment my wife called to see what was happening so I put her on speaker phone and the Doc and I got the story...

My wife was half-in and half-out of the door waiting for our 11 year old daughter to come home from a friend's house up the block. Brody scooted out under her legs and darted around wildly trying to get a chase on. At 18 months old, he is still wildly playful. Unfortunately, he ran in the street in front of a car. Thankfully, Brody is an off-white color with some golden points, so the driver saw him and attempted to stop. Brody was hit, and tumbled to the ground. He wound up under the car and shot out from the side of it like a bullet, yelping as he ran and hid under our deck.

So the Doc looked at him thoroughly and it turns out that there is no evidence of broken bones or any internal problems. Brody had a nail torn off of his right hind paw, has a cut on the left hind leg, and a pretty bad puncture wound to his right wrist that required a stitch.

He seems less able to walk today, which I assume is the "day after" pain from any bad accident after the adrenaline wears off. I can relate with that "day after" pain as I remember how I felt the day after a motorcycle accident. Still, he is under very watchful eyes and is expected to pull through.

Any web hugs, well wishes or prayers for my four legged friend would be graciously accepted.

How frightening for all of you....I'm so sorry. He really was so lucky that it wasn't more serious. Guinness and Murph send Doodle wishes that he's feeling better very soon. They are also telling him to "milk this for all it's worth".....ha, ha.
