I have been doing so well with my loose leash walking that mom said it was time to “up the ante.” You see I think it is my personal, civic responsibility to meet and greet every man, woman, child and dog that I pass. I have done a lot of work on this, but still have a hard time resisting children and dogs. Mom says this is bad manners, but I don’t understand how being friendly is having bad manners! Anyways mom had an unexpected day off and decided to take me out.

We went for a short drive to the beach and walked along the waterfront to the park under the big bridges that links Ontario to Michigan. Boy was it fun! At the park I met some really nice First Nations children and their camp counsellors. One boy named me “Asanagoo.” The counsellor laughed because that word means squirrel in Ojibwe. How did he know I like squirrels?!?

We carried on down the waterfront walkway where there were tons of people on benches enjoying the view. Some of them had dogs and some even had HOTDOGS! Plus there were children playing in the water. It was soooo hard! But mom said I did very well. Did I mention the hotdogs?

We ended up eating lunch under the big bridges. We went to the chip truck where they sell world famous French fries. The lady at the window asked if she could take our order, and well I thought she was talking to me, so I jumped up and put both front paws on the counter. Mom said that was the WRONG thing to do, but the lady laughed and said she didn’t mind. And she gave me an ice-cold bottle of water with a fancy cardboard dish to drink it from for FREE!

After lunch we walked the 40 minutes back to the car. I am pooped now, but very happy and mom is very proud of me! Too bad she forgot the camera!

Thanks for listening doods!

Your pal Gavin

Wow Gavin, it sounds like you had a great day. I don't think I could have done as well as you off leash; especially the hotdog part. Your Friend, Harlow

Dear Gavin,
You are awesome! My mom wishes we were so good, but we feel obligated to bark at some people - gotta protect our pack, ya' know, and mom is not happy. We have walked at the beach and the harbor here and it smells really good, but mom won't let us get in the water and she won't let us off leash either.

Wow Gavin, that was some day. I would have pulled my mother right into the water if I had been there. What a good boy you were. Hey, didn't you even get a hot dog for being so good? ha ha....I know, you can't have human food...right? I am not allowed human food and I guess it is a good thing because I am not a pest when my parents eat in front of me. They say I am really a good girl and they love that I don't beg. But...water...I would have begged and begged to go into the water!!! It's so hard being a Doodle sometimes but when you think about it...we have the best life ever and know that we are loved unconditionally!!!! Good work Gav!

Wow, Gavin, what a fun day you had! You're a lucky doodle; I've never been to a beach! But if they have hotdogs there, I'm sure I would like it!
You're really smart to make your mom proud of you. When moms are proud of us, we get extra treats and get to go more places! Good job!
Your friend,

Gavin so glad you are feeling better and are out having fun again. It sounds like you had a great day. You did much better than I would have. I would have been ok with the adults and kids but when I meet another dog I just have to say hello, I think it might be rude not too, after all Mom says hello to the humans she meets.

Hi Gavin, Rosey here. Sounds like you were a better dood than me today. My mom took us to a new dog park, even though it was raining so we could play and it is attached to a river. Well I just love to swim, and then I saw a giant white bird that I thought I need to introduce myself to so I swam all the way out to it even though my mom was calling me and then other humans started calling me but the bird (my mom said it's called a swan) was so pretty and looked like it would be fun to play with. But as soon as I got right up to next to it, it started making hissy noises and swimming after me. I decided that maybe that swan was not so friendly after all and swam back to shore. My mom then said it was time to go. So we came home and had baths and dinner... glad that swan didn't get me.

Gavin, it sounds like you had a wonderful day with Mom! Your beach didn't allow you off your leash to play in the water? You have to ask her if she would drive a gazillion hours to our beach - it is a dog beach 12 months a year. We bring Mom so she can drive and then she takes us out to lunch! We get to meet Mya & her Mom, Debbie, and Mac & his Mom, Dana. Sometimes other doodles from DK meet us there. We see other doodles that are not on DK and we tell them to join us here so we can see pictures of our friends.
Beg your Mom to come here so we can play in the water together! We would love that!
Love,
Samantha & Charli
