I finally got a new pup. Zack was born 3/10/09 and we picked him up on 5/30. He is a sweet boy with a great temperment. He already knows sit and down after a couple days work.

He is a very picky eater. He weighted 20.4 pounds. She had him on Eukanuba Large Breed Puppy. The bag says 3.3 cups per day for his age and weight. 1.5 cups is the best he would do and over the first few days he dropped to 19.5 pounds. The vet put him on Nutri-Cal (2 tablespoons per day.) He is now back to 20.3 pounds and eating 2.5 cups. I did get hime to eat 3 cups yesterday. I am having to mix a couple teaspoons of wet food to get him up to that amount.

Has anyone else had this problem, or is it a problem? The vet says he is healthy.

Congrats Ron! Enjoy your new sweet pup =)
I wouldn't worry just yet, he may just need a while to get comfy and get used to a schedule. Dogs, if healthy, won't starve themselves. I'd put down his food at every meal and give him 10 min to eat. If he doesn't eat, pick it up and put it back. Repeat at each meal.

Also try hand feeding him...a good way to train new things at meal times when he is hungry!

Congrats on your new puppy!!
Zack is a big boy!!
Charlie ate 3 x when she was younger, but I don't think it measured up to 3 cups when she was 10 weeks...
She is still on a smaller side, ( 30 lb at 23 weeks) but healthy and has no problem.

Congrats on the new puppy. Yankee didn't eat much either when I brought him home. I thought it was the food so I kept changing it. He just isn't a big eater and even now he rarely finishes his food. He eats when he feels like it and he is a healthy 67lbs. Don't worry, they eat when they're hungry. Enjoy!

Congratulations on your new baby! My older doodle, Shiloh.....who just turned a year old......had a really rough time with food in the beginning. Now he weighs 60lbs and is doing great....I am sure yours is doing just fine, too. Have fun with him!
