Well as some of you know I have been on a desperate search for a new Vet for Daisy.

Because of her extreme shyness and fear to new situations and people I have gotten "less" than what I would expect from Vets. One went as far as saying "Wooooooo", for a long time and putting his hands up and backed off, when she barked at him giving Daisy complete control over the situation. This Num nut and his technician (who rolled her eyes) put a towel over her eyes to shoot the Bordetella vaccine in her nose. I was so upset, he didn't try the down and side way to greet her or anything....this method ALWAYS works with Daisy.

Well yesterday we may have hit pay dirt. Before going to her annual exam I called and explained Daisy's normal behavior and in response to this they even had the resident Vet who is their Behaviorist and the Vet who took care of her. It was a wonderful experience for all of us.

Our new regular Vet tried the typical stuff "treating" & sideways greet. Though Daisy didn't react negatively he could still see she was frightened so off he went with Daisy for a short, get to know me walk. When they came back she still ran to our sides but she was no longer shaking. DH picked her up and put her on the examining table where the exam went off without a hitch, no reaction to a blood draw or shot and he fussed with every little body part and even trimmed her nails.

The Behaviorist Vet then told us a few things (like Daisy's Thundershirt was probably one size too big) and things to try to help Daisy meet new people in new situations (all the things we already do with her). All the while we talked she was on the floor petting and giving her little treat bites.

When we left the office, Daisy did not drag us out, we walked normally, stopped and paid the bill and she was just so happy,.

It was a good day for our little family....oh and we have to drive 45 minutes to get there, worth every second.

Barb, I don't really know which is worse - ha ha

Thanks Bonnie!

Laurie, that big boy needs a Thundershirt...I can just see him rolling around trying to get it off!

Traci, thanks!

Okay Donna, now I am mortified! WTD?!

Oh Lisa that is just great !!! It is well worth the ride, I would do the same if either of my doodles were frightened of the vet.   Sasha is very timid and a bit skidish but she does OK at the vet as long as I am there she is fine.  She knows I am her protector :)  Oliver on the other hand would befriend a serial killer :(

This is great news. We have this same problem with Vern at the vet. How far is the drive from PA? LOL

Donna, the rapport is so important I think. And seriously how could someone not take notice of that gorgeous hunk of male? And really did the Vet really refer to him as a her? OMD!!!!

F, one would hope!

Doris, if only!!!!! Nobody really paid much attention to Daisy at the last Vet and that guy said she was 5- lbs overweight before he even touched her (She wasn't of course, does anyone remember Daisy's shave down, skinniest girl on DK) - DH said "well that guy had back fat", he was so offended...ha ha

Jane, thanks it does mean the world of difference, thanks.

I'm so happy you found this Vet.  I know what a huge difference it makes to have someone who is not only knowledgeable but also can make you and your Doodle feel safe and comfortable.
