Well as some of you know I have been on a desperate search for a new Vet for Daisy.

Because of her extreme shyness and fear to new situations and people I have gotten "less" than what I would expect from Vets. One went as far as saying "Wooooooo", for a long time and putting his hands up and backed off, when she barked at him giving Daisy complete control over the situation. This Num nut and his technician (who rolled her eyes) put a towel over her eyes to shoot the Bordetella vaccine in her nose. I was so upset, he didn't try the down and side way to greet her or anything....this method ALWAYS works with Daisy.

Well yesterday we may have hit pay dirt. Before going to her annual exam I called and explained Daisy's normal behavior and in response to this they even had the resident Vet who is their Behaviorist and the Vet who took care of her. It was a wonderful experience for all of us.

Our new regular Vet tried the typical stuff "treating" & sideways greet. Though Daisy didn't react negatively he could still see she was frightened so off he went with Daisy for a short, get to know me walk. When they came back she still ran to our sides but she was no longer shaking. DH picked her up and put her on the examining table where the exam went off without a hitch, no reaction to a blood draw or shot and he fussed with every little body part and even trimmed her nails.

The Behaviorist Vet then told us a few things (like Daisy's Thundershirt was probably one size too big) and things to try to help Daisy meet new people in new situations (all the things we already do with her). All the while we talked she was on the floor petting and giving her little treat bites.

When we left the office, Daisy did not drag us out, we walked normally, stopped and paid the bill and she was just so happy,.

It was a good day for our little family....oh and we have to drive 45 minutes to get there, worth every second.

Donna, I'm hoping that the vet's confusion was before the physical : )

Yay! I know you must be relieved! A good vet makes all the difference! Our clinic has 3 vets and each one adores Knox AND the feeling is mutual!

So glad you have found a vet you like and is willing to spend the time to make Daisy more at ease, really going to the vet should not be a stressful experience when it is just for routine things. I am going to be looking for a new vet as well. The vet practice we use now have rotating vets and I am a little embarrassed to say I don't even know their names. Quincy has seen a different vet each time we have been there and no one that I felt any rapport with. He is due for his yearly checkup in April and I am going to make an appt with a vet that was recommended to me by a friend. I actually used to work with this particular vet's Mom at one point in time so I am hoping that will score us some brownie points. I want someone who knows us and one that actually knows that Quincy is not a girl like the last vet that did his yearly physical. Quincy has no fears or issues at the vet's office but I think that has more to do with the receptionist who gives him treats and thinks he is the best thing since sliced bread.

Oh, that's great!  It will be so nice to know she won't be so stressed every time you have to take her.  A vet that spends the time to build that relationship is totally worth the extra drive.

Thanks everyone it really does matter doesn't it!

It really is a relief...I just needed someone who took their time and understood and it looks like I actually got it. DH was thrilled as well cause now he can stop hearing "I want a Vet who cares, or at least acts interested".

:0)

What's really interesting is this gentleman opened his doors 27 years ago and he is the one we chose. Hopefully he doesn't retire before Daisy.

So glad you found a great new vet who is willing to spend some time putting Daisy at ease. That's worth everything.

That sounds brilliant, really caring and professional..  Hopefully you won't need to visit that often.

This is wonderful-I only hope we can find something half that good. Daisy probably felt so good after meeting them!

Bet she can't wait to go back LOL!
