Well as some of you know I have been on a desperate search for a new Vet for Daisy.

Because of her extreme shyness and fear to new situations and people I have gotten "less" than what I would expect from Vets. One went as far as saying "Wooooooo", for a long time and putting his hands up and backed off, when she barked at him giving Daisy complete control over the situation. This Num nut and his technician (who rolled her eyes) put a towel over her eyes to shoot the Bordetella vaccine in her nose. I was so upset, he didn't try the down and side way to greet her or anything....this method ALWAYS works with Daisy.

Well yesterday we may have hit pay dirt. Before going to her annual exam I called and explained Daisy's normal behavior and in response to this they even had the resident Vet who is their Behaviorist and the Vet who took care of her. It was a wonderful experience for all of us.

Our new regular Vet tried the typical stuff "treating" & sideways greet. Though Daisy didn't react negatively he could still see she was frightened so off he went with Daisy for a short, get to know me walk. When they came back she still ran to our sides but she was no longer shaking. DH picked her up and put her on the examining table where the exam went off without a hitch, no reaction to a blood draw or shot and he fussed with every little body part and even trimmed her nails.

The Behaviorist Vet then told us a few things (like Daisy's Thundershirt was probably one size too big) and things to try to help Daisy meet new people in new situations (all the things we already do with her). All the while we talked she was on the floor petting and giving her little treat bites.

When we left the office, Daisy did not drag us out, we walked normally, stopped and paid the bill and she was just so happy,.

It was a good day for our little family....oh and we have to drive 45 minutes to get there, worth every second.

that is wonderful news!!!!...It makes the situation so much better for you and Daisy.  I have used the same vet for the last 28 yrs, and he is like that.  He gets right down on the floor with Oliver, he sits and cuddles him, talks to him and Oliver and all my other dogs I have had absolutely love him.  I am dreading the day that he retires, he is so good, not an alarmist, and he knows I am nuts when it comes to my dogs.  He is as patient with DH and me as he is with the dogs....

So glad you found a Vet's office that get's it.   Sounds like this might be a real winner for you both!

Interested to see if you went to my vet. Drop me an email. There are two in your area I have used. One in an emergency, the other is our regular vet. A bit of a drive and all worth it IMO.
Good for you!

How nice to hear. I travel about 30-40 minutes to my vet too because I like the place. I loved my old vet but sadly she died last year and I tried a colleague there. We only went once so far but the new vet sat low on the examining table and let the dogs get to know her, all good. There's no need for unnecessary trauma.
