Oh my gosh! I rescued a dog!

Today, on the way home from our shop, we saw a little dog that almost went across the street. Everybody who saw her stopped their cars and one was about to get out. Then, (Thank God!) she ran onto the sidewalk. I got out of the car and started walking after her (I didn't want to chase her because she might run out into the street again). We walked all the way down the sidewalk (she was still ahead of me). Then, she all of a sudden crossed the street again. I got worried and I ran across the street (this time I was running) and we got to the sidewalk and she immediately crouched down and pooed and peed out of fear.:( I put my hand on her neck and my dad came running across the street to help. Guess what? I realized she was pregnant! She is a little chihuahua. She is very young. She is probably going to have her puppies soon. It seems like someone had just dumped her. I am not sure though because she seemed well taken care of. Right now, she is in the one crate in our shop with food and water. I hope she is okay through the night. There were no shelters open (it was about 11:30pm). I didn't take any pictures yet but she is a cutie:) I am so glad I caught her. I couldn't have watched her get run over and die. My dad said he could feel the puppies kicking when he carried her:) She is very much a people dog. As soon as we got her into the crate, she wagged her tail and everything:) I hope she has an owner that comes to get her or she will get one soon:)

Oh and by the way, I gave her a bath and she smells pretty:) She has a new collar and leash and everything:) We are either calling her Chica or Reyna. So far, it has been Chica mostly. She mostly likes to be fed by hand like a certain doodle I know:)

Okay guys.... we just took her to the shelter to see if she had a microchip, she didn't. They also said they wouldn't take her while she was pregnant because they are not there during the night- and what if she decides to have her puppies then? My mom doesn't want to take her home. She isn't very fond of little dogs. haha:) I don't think she is being very sensitive to this little girl's situation. She needs constant supervision because she cloud possibly go into labor any second for all we know. She is finally sleeping for the first time since this morning. She was licking herself a little bit earlier. I am taking it that that is a sign of puppies coming soon. She isn't even scared of loud noises, dogs, or people. She hasn't growled at any dog and I thought she would be grumpy since she is pregnant. I want to keep her at least until she has her puppies and see how it goes from there.;) My dad is willing to bring her home I think but my mom is not. Still working on it.:) Thanks guys

Taylor that's great that you found her especially that time of night. If someone did dump her I hope they can find good homes and everything goes well. She may be lost we can only hope the best of people. Let us know what happens.

Just a quick note, first, you are awesome for taking care of this little one.  Second, my family had Chihuahuas when I was younger.    Sometimes veterinary assistance is necessary during delivery as they are obviously very small dogs.  Our chihuahua only had one litter, three pups, and without the vet she may not have made it.

Hopefully the owner will be looking for her.  If it was me, I would be heartsick!

What a little sweetheart!! She has wonderful eyes!! Wow! She really is PREGO!!!! You may have the puppies before you connect with a rescue group!!  Maybe she will name one after YOU!! :)
