Yesterday I took Indy to one of the many dog parks in Austin (this one is right on the lake) and when he got wet I noticed a rather large hairless spot on his shoulder. I had missed it before because his other fur covered it up! That was kind of alarming but when I asked my coworkers at the grooming place, they didn't seem too concerned. I did a little DK searching but didn't find too much on bald spots. Indy slept pretty much all of yesterday and didn't eat very much but all together it wasn't enough to warrant a (expensive!) trip to the vet.
This morning I woke up to the none-too-pleasant smell of diarrhea. Luckily Indy sleeps in a crate so it was contained pretty well. It smelled SO bad. I got him cleaned up (then disinfected my shower), begged my apartment people to let me use their hose to clean out his crate (thank goodness they are kind!), and called the vet.
My vet didn't have any openings, so they offered to watch him during the day and she would check him out between appointments. He wouldn't eat or drink anything this morning. I went to pick him up and take him to the car and noticed he was shaking. He shook in the car the whole way there and then shook while I held him. It wasn't constant shaking, but little bursts. I think that's what is scaring me most right now. I hate leaving him at the vet, but at least they are watching him and can help him if something really bad happens.
Anyways, I just wanted to get that all out. Hopefully he's alright and it's just a little incident, but I can't help but be scared for him. He has stomach issues pretty regularly so hopefully it's just some sort of flare up. I'll update if I hear anything from the vet. I appreciate any good thoughts.

Feel better soon Indy.
I just heard from the vet. Something is definitely out of whack but they don't know exactly what's up. He had more bacteria than normal in his stool and some bacteria that shouldn't be in his stool showed up too. They are putting him on Metronidazole and some fiber and sending the sample to an outside lab because they couldn't tell exactly what was going on. They are also giving him some subcutaneous fluids because he's dehydrated.
The bald spot is apparently a reaction to the vaccines he received a month ago. She said the hair may never grow back. I know it's silly, but I'm pretty upset about that. It's a very big spot on his shoulder. They'll make a note not to give him that brand again, but the damage is done. Luckily, it seems to be unrelated to the other stuff.
One positive is that they weighed him and he has gained 4% weight since the last visit! This is really good and I'm glad that the Orijen seems to be working. I'm about to go pick him up now. Hopefully he is feeling better really soon. I'm going out of town for a week on Saturday and I'd hate to leave him in a bad state :(
