Orange Beach Bummer

On Tuesday, Murphy and I loaded up our stuff in our little red car and headed out to Orange Beach, Alabama to spend a week with friends boating and beaching and generally having a good time. We are South Louisianians. We know there is an oil spill. We thought we could beat it. We didn't.

The condo didn't want a giant goldendoodle swimming in their pool. They didn't care that it was literally 100 degrees outside. Murph didn't understand why he couldn't jump off the dock that just last month he had jumped off to his heart's content. His new buddy Marlin the labradoodle didn't either. I tried to explain that I really didn't want him to become a LIVE absorbant boom and that there probably wasn't enough DAWN in Orange Beach to get him clean. Beach condos had kiddie pools with a bottle of dawn with a sign that said "DO NOT TRACK OIL INTO CONDO".

This is small stuff, I know. We daily live the reality of the oil disaster in Louisiana. I work for Tulane. I know the reality. We just wanted one more week........

I am so sorry about your vacation...everything going on down there makes me so upset for the locals, tourism, animals, fisheries, etc...
Sorry you are living down there and going through all of that. I am in a land-locked state and the closest beaches are on the gulf - I have so many memories of the Destin-Ft. Walton beaches it is hitting close to home even though I am not down there living it like you are!

I would think that any hotel from TX to FL (both coasts) would be kissing anyones butt that is still willing to come and stay with them. They have to be careful not to be their own worst enemy. You could have easily cancelled on them. If I were a hotel owner there I would be doing all sorts of extra things to treat the people right that were still willing to come and take a chance.

I am sorry for the whole mess. And I am sorry that your vacation was ruined. We wait so long for a break in our routines and build up our hopes for a wonderful magical time and then.... reality sets in. So sorry.
