I went to an Agility Trial yesterday where this women told me Rusty looked like an Otterhound. I've never seen one so I didn't know if he did or not. Everytime I saw this woman yesterday she said the same thing "there's that cute dog that looks like an otterhound". So,, I looked it up... and ya know what?? He does sorta look like an otter hound

The Otterhound Club of America says "Otterhounds can make great pets, if -

- you have a sense of humor (and a fair amount of patience).
- you aren't obsessed with keeping your house/clothes spotless.
- you have a securely fenced yard.
- you just love that hound voice (and so do your neighbors!).
- you are looking for a pet and watchdog - but NOT a guard dog. "

It was interesting reading about them.. but I'll stick to my doodles, thanks.

From the "Purebred Puppy Info" website:

If you don't want to deal with...

Vigorous exercise requirements
Rowdiness and exuberant jumping, especially when young
Destructiveness when bored or not exercised enough
Strong instincts to chase other animals that run
Stubbornness
Slowness to housebreak
LOUD baying
Lots of brushing
Shedding
"Shaggy dog syndrome," i.e. debris clinging to the coat, water soaking into the beard and dripping on your floors
Waiting lists (very hard to find)
An Otterhound may not be right for you.

Otterhounds are really sweet dogs, but this is one breed that is really better in an outdoor kennel than in the house. They are not good house pets! And they are among the most difficult dogs in the world to housebreak. There are very, very few litters produced in this country each year, and even fewer puppies available for companion animals. Oh, and they shed like crazy! But they sure are doodle-y cute!
