Wellour little Sasha turned 3 months on the 14th and I can't believe how much she's grown just in the two weeks that we had her. Unbelievable! She is starting to be quite a beautiful puppy. This week we made an appointment to her vet for her shots and were quite pleased with the service we had through the phone. We kept the same vet that our Breeder seen because they already know her quite a bit.
All week we have been trying to get her used to our truck. We tried every advice that the people of DK gave us and we thank you all so very much. We brought her in the front seat and just sat her there, with all the doors open. She was shaking so much! I sat in the driver’s seat, petting her, giving her kibbles. Mic was right beside her also petting her. He left a little piece of kibble on the dash of the truck to see if she would go get it. No such luck yet. So then we closed the doors, after she calmed down a little. She went right back to shaking, but no drool! (Thank GOD) She was sniffing around, trying to move around and we can tell she was slowly getting used to it. After a while Mic told me to drive around the block so I did and kept petting and talking to her. She did great! So we tried to do this every day till we had to go to the vet which is about an hour away.
Yesterday we went to the vets. They told us to calm her down; we should give her half a gravol. I didn't really like that idea much but we did it anyway. She was great until about half an hour in. She started drooling again, but who can blame her, it was a long ride for my poor baby. When we got there we took her out and walked her around before bringing her in. The vet did not even recognise her! He told us she changed so much. We put her on his table and he gave her two shots; rabies and a booster. She was a pro! Not even a flinch! After we made our next appointment, we left for the road again. And Sasha was not going in that truck easily lol! About 15 minutes away from home, she threw up! My poor Sasha girl! We felt so horrible to make her go through all of this. But her vet said she would grow out of that fear. I just hope it's soon! lol

Oh poor Sasha and poor you. It sounds like you are trying everything. I hope this ends soon for all of you.
Sounds like you're doing all the right things for Sasha--what a good mom and dad! I like the idea of just sitting in the car with her, giving treats or petting, then taking her out again. Brilliant!
Fortunately, Trav has always been fine in the car. I trained him to get in the passenger side back door instead of jumping in and out of the back door (small SUV), which he really didn't like to do. Now he doesn't have far to jump, which I figure is better for those fragile legs. :)
LOL those are awesome stories! Like I said, I hated giving her medication but I felt bad for her going on an hour drive freaking out. I wont be doing it often at all. Plus the vet told us it was ok. But still. Jarka - That Homeopathic drop, did the vet give you a prescription for that? If so, and if she keeps getting sick in the future I might ask the vet for that. But that is only if she gets wors because we travel quite a bit. I know a lot of people don't like the idea of medication on a dog, but sometimes it's for the best of your dog.
she is precious! Her fur looks so soft!
Bender has issues in the car but has gotten better where he can go for longer without throwing up. He still gets car sick tho because he sits up every time the car turns or goes up hill. He doesn't gag the entire time likes he used to. He's one now so hopefully by 2 he will be all ok! I hope Sasha gets better soon :)
Jarka--LOL on Auggie chewing up the whole bottle and not getting sick ever since! Man, that dog cracks me up!
That's so interesting that some dogs do just fine with cars and some have issues. Auggie used to throw up in the car every time. I might have been just backing out of the garage and there he went. He would whine for the first couple of weeks, but then the whining stopped. The throwing up didn't. I did not want to give him drugs every time we were going out in the car, so I got some homeopathic drops. At first they seemed to work, but then I think he threw up once even with the drops (I think I gave him the drops too late before the ride). Then one day I walk into the kitchen and found the homeopathic bottle of the drops all chewed up. He has not thrown up in he car ever since. LOL, perhaps he just needed a high dose of the drops. But yes, Sasha will hopefully grow out of it and once she realizes that car takes her fun places, she should not be scared anymore. Auggie does not run to the car like Monty does, but at least he follows his big brother to the garage. I still have to hoist him up into the car. But at least he seems okay going somewhere in the car now.
She is so pretty. I had a black dog growing up - best dog ever. Most dogs do outgrow car problems. You are doing the right things.
Poor Sasha, I can so relate to the car thing! Libby did and sometimes still has problems in the car! It just makes us feel so bad when she is scared. She is much better, but we are still working on it. It just takes time, lots of it! LOL I'm glad Sasha's visit to the vet went well and everyting was good! This picture of her is so cute, but she looks a little sad too:( She is so adorable!
