Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi, this is Murphy (Guinness's brother).  I'm writing this blog, because he's just to little to reach the computer....even when he's on the chair.  We have a BIG problem.  It's our Mom...she has something called OCD.  We didn't know what was wrong with her until today when I did some "net surfing".  Our Mom is really strange about a lot of things...but the thing with our toys is just out of control.  She has this "basket" where she puts our toys.  Now think about it, what good are toys when they're in a basket.  Can you play with them...or chew them...I don't THINK SO.  So, what's with the basket anyway?  A few times a day she makes this funny sound (like ahhhhhhh) and goes around and picks up all our toys and puts them in that basket thing.  WTD?  Well it just makes a lot more work for Guinness and me.  We have to wait till she's out of the room and then I have to get up and get the toys out and throw them on the floor so that Guinness and I can play.  We usually wait till she's in the bathroom (she's in there a lot), and then I do it.  I say "Guinness, let the good times roll".  Then we spread them all over the place....Guinness usually takes care of the downstairs. Don't you think we NEED toys in every room....of course we do.  It kind of looks like this....

Okay, Guinness, she's in the bathroom, I'll get up there and get the toys out of the "basket".

I'm finding all the good ones, buddy.

I'm really getting into my work....

There's an antler in here somewhere....

I think I got all the good ones.....

Thanks, Murph!

So this is how we spend our day....ridiculous, right?  Can you talk to our Mom about this problem?  She needs help!  Saturday before our DS came over with the "rug rats" she picked up the toys and put them away.  We had nothing to do.  Then Guinness spotted a kid's "rubber shoe" (Crocs), and it sure looked like a toy....plus it smelled like feet...yummy.  Well there was nothing else to play with, so Guinness "snuck" it under the dining room chair (he's pretty smart).  Nobody could see us....sweet.  Well we ate it!  We didn't swallow anything...just spit out all the little "shoe pieces".  Everyone was shocked when they found us....hello, what else were supposed to chew?  It wasn't pretty...the DGS was crying like crazy and our DS was not a "happy camper".  Mom had to hit the Mall on Monday looking for more of those rubber shoes.  I guess they're hard to find for little kids.  Oh well, serves her right.  So we're wondering if there are other Doodles out there with Moms who have this OCD thing too?  We need help!!!!

Max here and I feel your pain. My research shows this is most definitely a Doodle Mom trait. And we're selling our house so now everything has to be Perfect!! Especially when we have a showing whatever that is alls I know is it's good cause I get to go for a car ride!!
And Rooney I know what you mean, my Mom keeps saying the same thing about teaching me to put all my toys baack in my toy basket. Right!!

Sedona here - I know what you mean about this OCD thing and the basket, only mine is a metal bin (mommy thinks it looks good with the decor).  What's really hard around here is "toy segregation".  When the baby is here (at least three days a week), there are "special" toys all over the place, but somehow I'm supposed to know which ones I can touch and which ones are "paws off".  I mean, to me a ball is a ball is a ball.  How am I supposed to know that the little pink squeaky ball is fine to play with but the bigger yellow one is off limits.  I'm getting really tired of hearing, "No Sedona, that's the baby's".  They seem to think the baby will die if I even sniff at it!  Loosen up people!

Guinness and Murphy - my mom is SO silly like that too! Most mornings before she leaves for work she gathers up the toys and puts them in basket. I spend valuable sleep time pulling out all my faves and arranging them just so. The mom comes home from work and puts them back in that basket. I immediately have to go and pull a bunch of stuff out. Mom sometimes seems frustrated by that, which I don't get at ALL. Why does she buy me toys?? To play with! I understand that when Einstein comes over to play she has to hide all the plushies (Einey swallows them whole) but sometimes it's an ENTIRE DAY before she remembers to put them back in the basket!!! I'm sure I'll eventually get her trained to leave them all out. And don't even get me started on her whole silly "the bedroom is where we sleep, not where we play with toys" rule. Sometimes I NEED to squeak a toy at 3 am! Hang in the G&M! Love, Callie

Hey Murphy-the computer rocks hey?? Anyway, there is no hope for these doodle moms! We have a pile of bones and they keep making piles in separate rooms, this makes Myla crazy! First of all she doesn't like them in a pile she will sit there and scratch away at the pile grab one from the bottom and "rescue" it by pulling it out and running into another room with it! I jut watch because everytime I have a toy she snatches it from me and lays down on it. Sometimes I fake her out and pick up one that nobody ever plays with and she thinks I want that one so she'll drop the one she has (the one I really want) and snatch this thing right from my mouth! So then I gradually sneak over and get the good one. SO these things are all over the house and it's really funny when mom & dad step on them! They say funny words and yell! Then the pile starts over!! Why can't they just leave things where we want them! So Murph-did you guys get in trouble for eating the rubber shoe?? Sounds like you caused quite the stir!! Think the rug rats will forgive you?? That was SO your mom's fault for taking ALL your toys away!! I just really enjoyed seeing you in action with these pictures!! Our mom has a toy box with a lid because I chew up all the toys I can so the good ones only come out when they are there to stare at us! Thanks for the tips, maybe we can hide the cover next time!!! Or chew on it!!!! Yeah-then it won't fit back on there. I wish we lived by you guys because you sound so fun and smart!!! You are kind of cute too!! (blush) Catch you later! Chloe

We have a basket too.  Simba follows mom around because he knows that she'll find all the toys, antlers, balls, etc I've hidden from him under or behind furniture.  He thinks he hides things from me too but I'm always aware!  Once everything gets dropped in the basket, he always looks at mom, then me, and slowly starts sniffing around.  We all know that once we turn around he's going to dive head first into that thing.  Anyway, I let him do all the work of taking everything back out.  Once I figure out what item he wants most, I take that one just to watch him squirm.  I eventually give it back because he becomes such a whiner.  I have to hide things when he's sleeping!  If only we could master the art of not hiding them where they become too hard to get back!  See guys...there is a plus to having a mom who wants things in the basket.

Rooney here - my mom had this problem too but I have re-trained her.  She is picky about how the house looks but I have taught her that my toys, bones, and dog beds (that I never lay on) being strewn about give the place a certain ambiance.  Now she doesn't seem to mind as much unless we have company coming over and then she slips back to her old ways.  I know she is concerned about her re-training though because I heard her telling dad that "she was slipping", I'm not sure what that means.  Then she said that she needs to train me to put my toys back in the toybox, wtd?  I'm going to pretend that I don't understand.

Hey, Daisy here....my mom stopped putting my toys away, she now just kicks them to the side if they are in her way, she used to do that noise "ugh" but then daddy would just say "train her to put them away" and she would say huh, "I'm not good at training anyone to do that,  I can't train you to put your things away either and you aren't 1-1/2 years old".

I am writing for Mickey, who is dictating this reply via Skype, who is back home in Pittsburgh.

I a lucky Doodle since my DoodleGrammie just complains about all the toys I leave all over her backyard! She just leaves them out on the lawn unless it is going to rain. Then she pretends to be annoyed and giggles as she picks up at least 20 plush (or they were plush at one time), antlers, balls, puppy toys that she refuses to throw away even though none of us are puppies anymore and the bandanas that the 3 of us Doodles play tug with at 1 time and puts them in the 2 outside toy bins she has.

She does get annoyed when I bring out the 'special' toy that are supposed to be inside only - Moo. I don't understand what the big deal is so I sneak Moo out when she isn't looking. Samantha, Charli and I just love playing 3 way tug with Moo. We each grab a limb and just pull. Moo squeaks which makes it even more fun than other toys we play tug with. We haven't let on to GD that we know she bought another one which she hides from us but gives it to us to play with on rainy days. She must think we are fooled but since we love her we don't let on.

GD must hide the best ones down at the bottom of the toy bin so I start there. She just laughs when she sees me sticking my head into the toy bin and start pulling them out one by one.

We know we are really lucky that she lets us make a mess of her yard. She says as long as it doesn't happen in the front where all the neighbors can see she is okay with it. I don't understand what the neighbors have to do with that but we get the backyard so who cares??

Hey Guys, Clifford and Little Cloud here, thank you for telling us what our mom has - now we can get her some help!  She doesn't even put our toys in a nice open basket like you have, she puts them in a container and puts the lid on at bedtime - and sometimes my dad forgets to take the lid off the next day so we can play with all our toys.  Lately, the toys have stayed in there because we've had a foster sister and she likes to eat the toys (she's not as smart as us but we like her anyway).  We've been deprived too long - we're off to order some medicine for our mom so she can learn to love our toys strewn about as much as we do.  Thanks for the help guys!
