Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi, this is Murphy (Guinness's brother).  I'm writing this blog, because he's just to little to reach the computer....even when he's on the chair.  We have a BIG problem.  It's our Mom...she has something called OCD.  We didn't know what was wrong with her until today when I did some "net surfing".  Our Mom is really strange about a lot of things...but the thing with our toys is just out of control.  She has this "basket" where she puts our toys.  Now think about it, what good are toys when they're in a basket.  Can you play with them...or chew them...I don't THINK SO.  So, what's with the basket anyway?  A few times a day she makes this funny sound (like ahhhhhhh) and goes around and picks up all our toys and puts them in that basket thing.  WTD?  Well it just makes a lot more work for Guinness and me.  We have to wait till she's out of the room and then I have to get up and get the toys out and throw them on the floor so that Guinness and I can play.  We usually wait till she's in the bathroom (she's in there a lot), and then I do it.  I say "Guinness, let the good times roll".  Then we spread them all over the place....Guinness usually takes care of the downstairs. Don't you think we NEED toys in every room....of course we do.  It kind of looks like this....

Okay, Guinness, she's in the bathroom, I'll get up there and get the toys out of the "basket".

I'm finding all the good ones, buddy.

I'm really getting into my work....

There's an antler in here somewhere....

I think I got all the good ones.....

Thanks, Murph!

So this is how we spend our day....ridiculous, right?  Can you talk to our Mom about this problem?  She needs help!  Saturday before our DS came over with the "rug rats" she picked up the toys and put them away.  We had nothing to do.  Then Guinness spotted a kid's "rubber shoe" (Crocs), and it sure looked like a toy....plus it smelled like feet...yummy.  Well there was nothing else to play with, so Guinness "snuck" it under the dining room chair (he's pretty smart).  Nobody could see us....sweet.  Well we ate it!  We didn't swallow anything...just spit out all the little "shoe pieces".  Everyone was shocked when they found us....hello, what else were supposed to chew?  It wasn't pretty...the DGS was crying like crazy and our DS was not a "happy camper".  Mom had to hit the Mall on Monday looking for more of those rubber shoes.  I guess they're hard to find for little kids.  Oh well, serves her right.  So we're wondering if there are other Doodles out there with Moms who have this OCD thing too?  We need help!!!!

I trained my mom to leave at least 2 toys out!! She puts them away in my pink basket sometimes, but I don't know how to get in and get them out! She always surprises me with what's in there! I say good job Guinness!! I wish I could figure out how to get in that basket! Keep training your human, it works!!

Murphy and Guiness - our mom is just the same.  She has lots of pillows she puts all over everything, so why can't we put our toys around?  For quite awhile Mom even picked up all the stuffing we had carefully removed from the stuffed toys and put it back in the toys and made the hole disappear.  We were persistent though, especially me, - Tigger can be a slackerwhen there is work to do -  and finally we broke her of that.  Now she just picks up all the stuffing and puts it in the basket under the sink.  At least its not in the toy - toys should not have squeekies or stuffing.

She has even tried to bribe us to put them back.  She sits by the toy basket with the cookies and says "get piggy" "get bone".  We never do it ... not ever.  As soon as she sits in her chair we bring her piggy and bone, since clearly she wants thing and we don't mind sharing - but why would she want them in the basket she should keep them in the chair to squeek and throw.  Moms!!!  She also wipes our faces with a rag after we eat, but we still use the chairs and bedding.  She is making so much work for herself.  If she would just lighten up she would have more time to play fetch with us or rub our bellies.  Its a good thing we love her so much .

Maybe we doodles should write a book on training our humans.

Heys, guys, I know how you feel. We have a basket here at my house, too. But I did what Ned and Clancy did, and trained my mom to stop putting all my toys and bones in there! You have to wear her down, keep throwing them all over the house in lots of different places, make sure some of them are under the furniture so it's really hard for her to get them! I've noticed it's getting harder and harder for my mom to crawl around under tables and reach under couches, so lots of times she just leaves my things alone! I pushed one bone so far under the sofa, my mom hurt her shoulder trying to pull it out and now she hardly picks up anything anymore!

I don't blame you for chewing up that shoe! Anything that's on the floor belongs to us, that's the rule! Maybe if the humans would stop worrying about where our toys are and pay more attention to their own shoes and socks, we wouldn't have to resort to chewing them up out of desperation!

Your pal,

Jackdoodle

PS - if the only toy around is a chewy, yummy smelling croc it just serves them right!  Give DGS a few licks and snuggles and all will be fine!

Yup, My mom is insane, her OCD is so bad that every time someone comes over they tell her that her house looks like a toy store, She bought me a huge toy storage container with many shelves, I can't even reach the middle shelves much less the top... Every day, she sorts my toys, balls in one bin, bones in another, big stuffies in one, little stuffies in the other, Chew toys in one, I don't get it, I take them out, and I have to dig and dig and dig for the one I want, Just now, as mom was almost asleep I started my body pouncing against the bedroom door, I fool my mom into thinking I have to go potty but really I just go get a toy that I want, I grab the toy from where ever it is, dig through all the others and leave them on the floor, I grab it and jump back in bed, all the while my mom is standing in the dark at the potty door calling my name to go out,,

Silly Moms....

Nope, we have NO problem; we finally got our mom trained.  Once in a while she puts toys in the basket thing but mostly she tosses them on our beds just so she won't trip over them.  Our mom used to pick the toys up - which is why we have the basket upstairs and the brass wood holder thingy downstairs.  We just broke her down - remember at one time there were FOUR of us!

Wow Murph, I thought that my Mom was the only Mom with this problem!!!..she has this basket too for mine and Renny's toys and she does the same thing...We take all the toys out and put them where we want them, and she goes and puts them back in the darn basket!!!!....I totally agree with you, what good are toys if they are in a basket????....My Mom keeps saying she has to teach us to put the toys back in the basket when we are done with them...She couldn't train our human brothers to put there stuff away, why does she think we want to learn that???...I feel for you Murph, I am going to tell Renny now that there is another doodle mom, that does this nutsy thing too!!!!!

Guinness and Murphy, Our mom has the same problem, plus she vacuums constantly and is always saying, "Vern, why are you so messy?....Vern, stop slobbering....Vern, If you roll in one more thing, I swear....Fudge, stop teasing Vern with the antler...Fudge, don't wind your brother up"...and you get the picture. You guys are so smart to steal those crocs and chew them up. Your mom was asking for it, putting all those toys away! We are very proud of both of you! Love, Fudge and Vern
