Penny the WonderDog Has Gone Over the Rainbow Bridge

Yesterday morning, Penny told us it was time for her to go.  Her mast cell cancer, which she had fought valiantly for more than a year, just plain wore her out.

We spent the day saying our final thank you's and goodbyes.  In the afternoon, a very special hospice vet came to the house, and Penny went to sleep in her favorite spot, surrounded by more love than the room could hold.  She went peacefully and you could see the relief on her face that she was no longer in pain.

While we are, of course, devastated, we are happy that she is no longer suffering.  We feel very good that we knew when the time was right without her suffering more than she had to.  And there are no words to relate the amount of joy she has given us over the last 7 years.  She was not only an amazing member of the family; she made the love between my husband Ron and myself all that stronger.

We move forward one day at a time with broken but full hearts.  Now it is time to love and care for Biscuit as she tries to find her way without her big sister.

We want to thank each and every one of you who have continued to reach out to us during this past year.  We joined DoodleKisses when it was just brand new, and have made friends for a lifetime.  Your love and concern have meant the world to us, and we look forward to sharing Biscuit's life with you the days unwind.

Penny loved you all... and so do we.

I am very sorry for your  loss.  Making the decision to end her suffering and losing Penny is the hardest part of owning a Dog.  It is obvious how much you loved Penny, and you did everything you could to help her live the longest, happiest life she could.  I am so sorry for you, your husband, and Biscuit.  You will be in my thoughts and Heart.

Michele, I am so sorry to hear that Penny is gone. Even though we have never met, I have thought of Penny often and my heart aches for you and your family. I know that in losing Penny, you have lost much more than a beloved dog, you have lost a treasured friend. My wish for you and your family is that soon you will remember Penny with smiles instead of tears. Treasure the memories, she will always be with you. Your video is a wonderful tribute to Penny and it made me smile in spite of the tears. Hugs to you and your family.

Oh, Michelle, I am so so sorry! I am not here on DK as much as I was in the past and had no idea that Ms. WonderDog was even sick. My hugs and prayers cannot make the hurt go away but I hope it helps just a tad.

You tribute to Penny was just lovely!

God of all creatures, ease our grief today as we bid farewell to Penny the WonderDog, whose
passing leaves a gap in our family circle. She demanded so little of us – fresh
water, food, a patch of sunlight for sun-bathing, our presence – and gave so
much in return – uncritical, undemanding, unlimited affection and devotion for
all of us.

Greeting each day, each moment, happily on its own terms, she showed us how to
live in the present rather than regret the past or worry about the future. Her easy                                   forgiveness of our flaws, her inability to hold a grudge, gave us an example of grace.

Creator, we are grateful for being allowed to share her life for our allotted
time. We will miss her bounding through our family life, but she will always be
present in our hearts.

Amen.

I just watched the video and I can't stop crying.  What a beautiful dog and amazing family.  What a blessing we all are to have these gentle dogs with such loving spirits in our lives, and I am so grateful for all the friends Paz and I have made on this site.  Paz and I are thinking of you!

I am so sorry ....there is just nothing else I can say about losing such a beloved family member.  Of one thing we can be certain is that there is a special place in heaven for your amazing doodle who brought so much joy into the lives of so many.

I'm so sorry.  Penny the Wonder Dog was the first doodle I "met" when I joined DK.  I looked at her pictures for grooming ideas, and hoped that my Webster could be a "wonder dog" too.  Thank you, Penny, for inspiring Webster and Charlotte to be Wonder Dogs of their own, you will be missed.
