I am officially 3 weeks from our baby girl's due date (human, that is!) and we recently packed our bags for the hospital. Mine are in the nursery ready to go and this is where I found Peri this morning:

I think she knows something is up. She keeps going in there and smelling things.  She wants to go with us too, I think!

Last night I was on the couch and she kept coming up to me and smelling me all over. She licked my hands and feet. And then Taquito jumped up and slept sprawled out on my belly (which he has not done the entire pregnancy).  I think they know something is going on - maybe I smell different too?  Peri will not really leave my side much anymore.  I love her so much and know she's going to be a wonderful big sister to Charlotte!

I will post a blog as soon as I can when baby girl arrives...hopefully with pics of the doodle and chihuahua too.  Not too worried about Peri.  But I am worried about the chi...for some reason he is just a little more sensitive and needier than Peri!

Nancie & Deanna - thank you so much for the excellent advice...we will definitely be doing all of that :)

Another thing we are doing is just trying to not change their patterns too much. For example, of course Tacky will still be sleeping in bed with us. And Peri will still be in her bed on our floor at night (unless she wants to sleep under crib in nursery, which is directly next to our bedroom).

Also, they will stay at mom and dad's while we are at hospital and they are so used to being over there, it will not seem weird or anything. I also plan on having them be right next to me when nursing, etc....I have no problem with the dogs being in our space. They are my first children after all :)

Allyson,

Let me add one other tidbit of advice to what Nancie just gave.  Before our granddaughter came to our house for the first time (as a tiny newborn), we found "crying baby" sounds on both iTunes and YouTube and played them for Sedona pretty frequently.  In theory at least, it helped her not overreact to Kayla's wails (and there were a lot of them!).

Sounds like you're ready to go.  Good luck when the big moment arrives.  Sending you positive thoughts for a quick and smooth labor and delivery!!  :)

Everything is going to be just fine.  You have been given a lot of good advice on how to bring a new baby home to a house with dogs.  As I had told you a few months ago, have your husband bring home the blanket that Charlotte was wrapped in a birth, show it to the dogs, let them sniff it and then have him take it up to his chest and say "mine".  Do this a few times and after that the dogs will probably lose interest in the blanket.  Then someone mentioned that when you get home from the hospital for you to go into the house first and greet the dogs and get them calmed down...maybe a nice treat or toy.  Then bring the baby in.  Let them see her and have a sniff of the carrier.  My daughter did all of this and hasn't for one moment had any problems and little Eowyn is now 6 months old and Luna (the dog) is her constant companion.  Luna always gets two quick lick kisses and then she stops or they tell her "enough".  The baby is now reaching out for Luna or leaning into her for more kisses.  When the baby is napping Luna is right in by the crib on the floor.  Just include Tacky and Peri as much as you can and everything will be fine.  If you are nursing and they are use to being on the sofa with you, in bed with you or wherever, let them continue to do so.  You will find that they will just cuddle up against you and the scene will be one big happy family!!  Good Luck and don't worry about a thing.  Also, they do have a sense as the baby is nearing.  Luna started acting more concerned about my daughter and more curious as the due date approached.  They just have a sense of things!

Awwww...Peri wants to be RIGHT THERE when you go out the door, so she can go too.  Exciting times--looking forward to hearing all about the new member of your family, and how the pups adjust.

I know it is hard, but you really need to trust that everyone is going to be fine. The more you are worried about it the more Peri and Tacky are going to pick up on it. They are going to LOVE Charlotte!!! They love you, you love them, you love Charlotte.......SO.......they will love Charlotte!! It is as simple as that. I am so excited for you!!!! You are going to be a great mommy (I know because you already are!) I can't wait to meet Charlotte!!!!!!

That is adorable. Only three weeks to go, how exciting. Sometimes I wonder how that would be if we had a sense of smell like our dogs do.

What a wonderful, exciting time for you and the Doods!!!!!    I just can't wait to hear about your new baby girl and her "siblings"!

That photo is just too cute! I'm sure Choodle knows that something is up! Don't worry; Peri is going to be Charlotte's best friend and protector, and Tacky will follow her lead and be just fine.

I am so excited for you! You absolutely have to let us know immediately when Charlotte arrives! Grandparents first, and then us, lol!

I'm sure that they know there is something happening and that there is excitement in the air.  Can't wait to see and hear about your new baby and wishing you all the very best of luck with all that comes with such a wonderful event.

Peri is just letting you know that she is ready as well. Such an exciting time for everyone. The last time someone posted that their dood was acting different, she had the baby a couple of days later.
